09. The langostino diablos I made for lunch Saturday.
08. Wimbledon -- A decent sports movie masquerading as a cute romantic comedy. An enjoyable trifle.
07. Rick Steves' travelogue shows on PBS, especially the European tours. Great watching for travel challenged folks like me.
06. "MADTv"'s Michael MacDonald -- The poor man's Will Ferrell on the poor man's "Saturday Night Live." His show is rarely worth watching all the way through, but MacDonald is a unique and inventive and very funny comedic actor.

04. "Farewell to the Rapture" by N.T. Wright (pdf doc)
03. "City of Blinding Lights" by U2 -- I've been listening to How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb almost nonstop during my late night writing sessions, and this particular song, which has always been one of my favorites on the album, is currently stirring my spirit every time I hear it. This one rocks me straight up into the third heaven.
02. "Shelter from the Storm" by Bob Dylan -- Great song.
01. Talking on the phone with actor Mark Ruffalo yesterday.

LOL. Yeah, I'm allowed to explain.
I just don't have time to tell the story right now. I'll get back to it.
But to those dubious -- yes, I did speak on the telephone to the actual person named Mark Ruffalo who is a semi-famous actor. (Semi-famous or not, he is one of my favorites.)
I'm all excited! Mark Ruffalo, really? I cannot wait to hear that story - I love him!
Would you explain langostino diablos for me? Sounds intriguing and I'm always looking for good, new recipes.
It was definitely one of the coolest experiences of my entire life.
Story coming soon, I promise.
They weren't technically langostinos. They were shrimp.
I made a diablo sauce, which is usually a spicy-sweet red sauce, to sautee them in. I got the recipe for this particular sauce, though, off the Internet, and it came out more barbecue sauce-tasting than traditional diablo sauce. It was sweeter and had a curry flavor.
I would have liked it hotter.
If you're interested in the recipe, let me know.
If you're interested in the recipe, let me know.
I thought that was what I said.
I had to look Mark Ruffalo up on IMDB.com.
I'd heard of him, but that's all I knew. Come to find out, he's been in several movies you've seen (eternal sunshine, collateral), but in nothing I've seen. Absolutely nothing. (Not even 13 going on 30.)
But perhaps I'll see him in one of his upcoming projects. He is building up quite the resume now, and will probably garner more attention in the near future. (Looks like his early films were all "b" movies.)
I've not seen any of the movies he's been in. So Shrode and I will sit over here and just chat amongst ourselves.
This is one of the reasons I was surprised I ended up on the cool list. I'm about as far from cool as one can get. I didn't even know Wimbledon was a movie. I will cheer for U2 being there. Even then my wife introduced me to them.
I've seen, I think, eight movies on Ruffalo's IMDB resume.
His breakout film was "You Can Count on Me," a phenomenal indie from Kenneth Lonergan starring Laura Linney that won quite a few Independent Spirit Awards and was nominated for a couple of Oscars.
That's the movie that pretty much made me a fan of his. He was nothing short of revelatory in it.
His highest profile roles were in "Windtalkers," "The Last Castle," and last year's "13 Going on 30," which is actually the movie most folks know him from.
He was awesome in supporting roles in "Collateral" and "Eternal Sunshine" last year, but his best performance from last year was in "We Don't Live Here Anymore."
I managed to talk about that last movie for a second or two with him Sunday.
Sorry, Jen. I thought when you said you wanted "good recipes," you'd at least want me to clarify what the diablo sauce was before I was sure you wanted to know how to make it.
Here's the recipe:
1/2 cup honey
1 tsp salt
1 tsp curry powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
4 tbsp butter
2 tbsp dijon mustard
1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 cup water
Put all of those ingredients into a saucepan and stir to mix. Then bring to a simmer and cook for 3 minutes, stirring to prevent scorching.
Pour over shrimp, pork, or chicken before broiling or sauteeing.
We poured it over a two-serving size amount of shrimp, but there was plenty of sauce probably to cook shrimp for four in it.
If you like stuff really spicy, I'd add more chili powder or pepper. Or maybe a tbsp of tabasco sauce. It wasn't hot enough for my taste, but it was still pretty good.
No worries. Thanks. It sounds good and I'll have to give it a try - with chicken I think, since I have a picky 9 year old to think of now.
Ruffalo was EXCELLENT in You can Count On Me. I think that Linney caught a lot of buzz for her role in that film, but I found her acting not nearly as incredible as his.
It's a good film, all in all, and should be watched on a rainy day with a nice cup of coffee.
As for Wimbledon . . .
I simply disagree. I rarely am tempted to walk out of a movie, but this one almost made me leave. I officially cannot stand Kirsten Dunst trying to act in any dramatic fashion.

um...can you explain #1?
Actor Mark Ruffalo? Why? That sounds like a great story! Are you allowed to explain? How did that happen?
