I'm Glad I'm No Longer A College Student

I had to tool around my alma mater yesterday for about 30 minutes, waiting for a photo client to show up. I've always appreciated the beautiful architecture and landscaping of Baylor University, but, despite that, today I had an epiphany of sorts: I'm glad I'm no longer a college student.

I wouldn't mind taking a couple of classes (sans the classmates), and I'm not against higher learning at all. In fact I think I've learned more about everything since graduating from BU almost 10 years ago now; BU sort of helped set the stage for a love of learning, because I certainly didn't possess much of that love in high school. Furthermore, I think my college years gave me a certain awareness to the need for critical thinking, and that's definitely a good thing. I also learned a heck of a lot about journalism and photojournalism. My time at BU wasn't wasted, though I wish I had learned so much more.

Here are a few things that I especially don't miss about my undergrad years:

- cheap chips and salsa (the key word being "cheap")
- ramen noodles
- continual fast food (though at the time I was blind, thinking continual fast food feasts were awesome)
- being forced to take classes that I wasn't interested in (e.g. badminton)
- believing the lie that I never had any time when in fact I had all the time in the world
- book store bills
- the list goes on forever

If you're in college, enjoy it. If you're out, be thankful.

to add to your list...

roommate disagreements
roommates using and abusing your stuff
the Greek scene

I'll add more if I think of it :-)

I miss the parts where I hung out with my instructors and my friends just talking all night.

Brandi’s right, I’m not missing the drama. I do get that from time to time at work.

I remembering the countless hours sitting on the couch with a textbook open and the TV on, calling it study time, and then complaining about my lack of free time.
