Note: I believe this is being put on by Focus on the Family. I realize that will horrify some of you. I can't help you.

I dunno. That was a bit snarky of me, I suppose. Just a pre-emptive snark, though :-) - almost every conversation here ends up with someone taking a shot at Christians who are on the wrong side of cool, and I just assume that the thought of FotF creating an interpretation of Screwtape will bother someone.
I am severely bothered in a most serious way.
Harumph.
(Gollum's looking a little chunky, isn't he? Lay off the coneys and wriggling fishes, my preciousss.)
I'm among those a tad "snarky" about FotF (I know, shocking)......but it beats the heck out of Disney completely butchering (IMmostHO) Chronicles of Narnia.
Screwtape, er Gollum, er, Serkis was terrific in the BBC production of "Little Dorrit".
My parents saw Screwtape in New York performed by Max McLean of the Fellowship of the Performing Arts and said it was great. Have any of you seen any of McLean's work? He's awesome; check him out:

FWIW,
I think it looks great.
Plus the idea of Focus on the Family hiring all those people with British accents makes me smile.
I wonder if today's quote at the top of the page is ironic? ;-)
"To move with the times is, of course, to go where all times go."
- C.S. Lewis
Of course, I'm always afraid to use the word "ironic" wrong, because I don't think anyone really knows what that word means anymore, including me.
Shrode, my brother and I were discussing the word "ironic" a few years ago. We determined that it's more or less a catch-all word now, for anything we don't know how to express.
We were specifically discussing the irony that my final divorce hearing was scheduled for the date that my ex-wife and I got engaged. It's not funny, or sad, or ... well, ... he finally decided that it was a feeling for which the human brain wasn't actually wired, so we call it ironic.
I'm horrified by somethings that FotF does, but mostly FRC stuff by Tony Perkins. I actually love their dramas, and the radio version of "A Christmas Carol" is one of the best (non-Muppets) versions around. It adds a small amount to the Christian aspect, but is otherwise just a great telling of Dickens' work.
Mostly, when they actually focus on families, I think FotF is wonderful.
This is AWESOME (I hope)!! And as a not huge fan of FotF I do have to say looks like this is going to be knocked out of the park.
FotF does some things really well. And they have the budget and desire to have great production quality for stuff like this.
The fact that I don't like some stuff that comes from FotF doesn't mean I have to say everything they do is therefore crap, or somehow tainted. If Serkis does even half as good a job with Screwtape as he did with Gollum, I think this will be really good.
I had heard that Serkis was voicing Screwtape, but missed the part about it being a FotF production. Interesting.
I ordered my copy yesterday. If you haven't heard the audio version by John Cleese, you should, it's also very good.
And about Focus on the Family: whatever your opinion of them is on a political level, they have put out some great material on spiritual, marital and emotional development. And some just plain great audio dramas. They did one presentation for one of their children's program years back that included a Star Trek take off that was hilarious.
The behind-the-scenes stuff on Andy Serkis becoming Gollum was probably my favorite out of all the extra stuff on the LOTR extended version dvd's.
Andy Serkis as Screwtape! I can't wait! Andy puts 100% effort into his characters. It should be great.
Wickle,
My divorce was filed 20 years to the day of my marriage. My attorney looked up at me when he realized it. I just smiled.
Has anyone heard the John Cleese version?
