Even Theologians Shop For Groceries

I was in the checkout lane at our local mega-grocery store yesterday and I ended up standing behind one of my favorite theologians, Roger Olson. I was itching to engage him in a conversation on modalism, but he seemed to be in a hurry, so I chickened out.

I just thought I'd share that with the world. I'm a chicken.

I love fried chicken.

I actually had the opportunity to sit down for lunch with none other than J.I. Packer several years ago. It was at an Indian restaurant. I had all kinds of questions I wanted to ask him, but he was really chowing down on the tandoori chicken and I didn't have the heart or nerve to interrupt.

Hmmm. Theologians and chicken. Is there a pattern here?

Bob, if you are sitting across from a guy at lunch, I think it's OK to ask questions.

Now Bird I have sympathy for.... When I've run into celebrities (to me) that I admire or whatever, I have the tendency to just smile and say "Hi" and leave it at that. I figure if they our out shopping or whatever they deserve to be left alone.

But it was really hard to resist the temptation to run up and say something really intelligent like, "Oh my gosh! I'm your biggest fan! You're the coolest!!!!!" when I saw John Elefante at a music industry event in Nashville, or Paul Q-Peck browsing in our bookstore in Nashville. :)

I did approach the great Bob Beeman (of Sanctuary Church in California) when I saw him. I thanked him for all the Christian heavy metal he exported. It was hard not giving him a big man-hug.
