"The proper focus of holiness is not on being set apart from something (i.e., the world), but on being set apart for something."

For the Helpless

I needed to hear this this morning. Side hug to our friend Jen for the youtube link.

Have you ever had times when prayer seems hard? Not that you're not praying, but just that you don't really have words anymore? I find myself in the uncomfortable position of no longer being able to dictate my plans for fixing our situations to him, because sometimes life just beats my pair of jacks.

Prayer's easier when I can just tell God what to do and slap an amen on the end of it. It's a lot harder when the words don't come because I've already worked through plans A through Z. and I'm running out of letters.

That's one of the awesome things about God's love, the gospel. It's for the helpless. People like me.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

Good word, Bill.

Thanks for taking my shallow Jason Castro-American Idol post and using it for His glory.

Hey what is this? This is from a recent American Idol? AWESOME that he did this song on national TV.

Hey how did the judges respond to this one?

Good post Bill. Even without the video. Good post.

You are a great writer. So expressive. So frank. So clear. I love your stuff.

You have something to say. Thank you!

Jen - you bet. Thanks for posting it because I needed it.

Phil - I don't think this was done on AI. I think this was just something played at a church. Not sure if it's where Jason Castro goes, or if it's pre-idol, or what.

Thanks for the kind words.

The video is of Jason playing at his home church- Lakepoint in Rockwall, Texas. I know this because my daughter has been cyberstalking him on youtube. :)

Interesting, though I have not followed Idol, I saw Jason perform Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and heard him interviewed. I would not have recognized that he was a believer from that interview.

As for the issue of finding it hard to pray, by coincidence, I wrote about praying in tongues this morning on my blog, then saw this. Praying in tongues can make a huge difference when one doesn't know what to pray or finds prayer difficult. It definitely is a miraculous thing that can supercharge your prayer life.

I'm kind of the opposite of DLE - I've gotten a humble/servant heart vibe from Jason on every interview I've seen - and I've watched him every week this season - he represents himself well and is truly the only one who doesn't appear to be rattled by criticism or spoiled by praise.....I'm not surprised at all to hear he's a believer - good to know, especially with the strong Mormon influence on this year's AI (2 of top 5) - I'm a self-proclaiming "LDSophobe" so this is a breath of fresh air...........I also respectfully disagree with with DLE on his 2nd point, but that's another discussion for another thread......
