"Membership in the family of God is neither inconsequential or something to be casually ignored. The church is God's agenda for the world. Jesus said, "I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." The church is indestructable and will exist for eternity. It will outlive this universe, and so will your role in it."

Home Alone: 20 Years Later

Do you remember when Home Alone came out? Man, what a phenomenon. Was there anyone who didn't see it? I remembered it fondly, so recently while looking for something that our 3,5, 7 & 9 year old can watch with their parents that we would all enjoy we picked that one. Whoops. Forgot there were some bad words in there and a reference to porn.

I just remember it as being so innocent. I had also forgotten that the criminals getting clobbered is only the last 20 minutes of the movie. You have to wait an hour until the real physical comedy happens.

So are you really curious about where all those Home Alone people are now?

Wonder no more, click on this link.

The most interesting one to me was what happened to the actor who plays Kevin's older bully brother named "Buzz."

But his most interesting post-'Home Alone' credit is undoubtedly as himself in the mockumentary 'Courting Condi,' in which he examines his love for former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice by interviewing those close to her.

So what are your memories of the movie?

I remember being appalled that it was billed as a kids' or family movie, because of the things you mention. Now that I am 40 and have young kids of my own who have seen it (at a friend's house) and loved it, I realize that most of that "objectionable" stuff went right over their heads and I'd do worse if I made a huge deal about it and drew attention to it.

I've never seen "Home Alone" and thought that the whole series seemed pretty stupid. Maybe I was too old for it.

I did have a similar experience, though, with "Back to the Future," which had a lot more profanity than I remembered, and "The Last Starfighter," which is coarse in places and makes frequent reference to the little brother's collection of "Playboy."

My wife and I have spent some time trying to figure out how to deal with such things. Should we allow those things which go over the kids' heads to pass, or stand against them?

It is kind of funny how our memories tend to obliterate the offensive parts of movies because we didn't catch them the first time around.

When "Clash of the Titans" came out this year, I pulled up the original on Netflix instant view. Not more than five or ten minutes into the movie you have a fairly close-up shot of Perseus' mother, naked from the waist up, as she breast-feeds her son. Very embarrassing, as I had spent the day hyping up to my two sons what an awesome movie it was. :(

I remember going to see it on opening night with my family - it opened on my birthday. I also remember absolutely loving the film and being proud that it turned out to be so successful. (It was the #1 all-time comedy for at least a decade - and still is, if you don't count animated films like Shrek 2).

I also remember the good music - John Williams' "Somewhere in My Memory" is a great song. I loved the church scene right before the final home invasion where the old neighbor talks about seeing his granddaughter only from afar . . .

Great movie.

I loved that movie. I remember fantasizing about booby trapping my house while we were gone on vacation. Thankfully I was nowhere near as resourceful or ballsy as Kevin.

I liked the second one, too, even though it followed the exact same formula. I (rightly) disliked the third one.

I've never seen it either. The concept never appealed to me, and I just don't like the Culkin kid.

love the movie - in fact we still make it part of our Christmas movies to watch :)

I haven't seen it. I haven't watched all of The Christmas Story either.

I think that Raindream and I might be in one of those "separated at birth" stories.
