Was pretty good. In my opinion.
The ending felt a little tacked-on, however. Sort of War of the Worlds-ish.

Yours is the first positive review I've heard. I'll wait for the DVD, I think.
Once I found out it was a remake of The Omega Man, I lost interest.
Did anybody read the book? What I read about the book sounds awesome. Anybody want to step out and recommend it?
I haven't read the book, but I want to.
I'm a sucker for "last man on earth" kind of stories, and the merging of that with zombie-type stuff is right up my alley.
I thought "The Omega Man" was lame, so the remake notion didn't turn me off to this one.
One of the best "last man on earth" movies I've seen is actually an obscure mid-80s Australian movie called "The Last Wave" that I discovered on worn VHS in my local video store. It's not available on DVD, dagnabbit.
It is an influence on the novel I'm working on.
Ok, shoot, "The Last Wave" isn't the name of the movie I'm thinking of. "The Last Wave" is an Australian movie from 1977, but not the flick I have in mind.
Wish I could remember the title of that movie, it was so cool . . .
The ending is tacked on.
[Giant book spoiler below for anyone who might read it.]
The ending of the book is that he gets captured by the zombie/vampires and discovers that the plague has stabilized -- the survivors are still highly photosensitive and otherwise permanently altered, but most of the deranged rabid ones are dying out, leaving a population of diseased nocturnal refugees. He has become a figure of legend among them for going about by day and beheading whole communities in their dormant state (this is the point of the title, which becomes meaningless in the the movie version). Then they execute him.
The book has been made into a movie a number of times before, but no one ever keeps that ending!
oh, that ending sounds better than the movie ending. that would have been good. do you think that the dvd will have alternative endings? that'd be nice.
I would agree with this assesment. Although I don't remember how tacked on the end of War of the Worlds was.
