"Membership in the family of God is neither inconsequential or something to be casually ignored. The church is God's agenda for the world. Jesus said, "I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." The church is indestructable and will exist for eternity. It will outlive this universe, and so will your role in it."

I believe Christians will be talking about John Piper hundreds of years from now in much the same way people currently talk about guys like John Wesley, Jonathan Edwards, and Charles Spurgeon.
In this short clip Piper expounds on Romans 8:31-39, explaining what "more than conquerors" means.

"more than conquerers" means that they serve us...hmmmm.
I was expecting him to say that those bad things become our servants to bring us "real" happiness. But he didn't quite say that.
Really good, bird, thank you.
By the way, I'd be interested to hear what others think about your premise...that Piper will join the ranks with Spurgeon, Edwards etc...

When Piper teaches, it just makes you want to shut up and listen, which is a powerful gift. -- I'm personally not so sure God wants us to be happy in the short term. Not that he wants us to be unhappy. There are seasons for it. But the idea that we should currently be living in some kind of Christian version of Nirvana doesn't jive with the Bible as i read it. God has cursed us because of sin. This world and all of creation are falling apart and it's meant to fall apart until Christ completes the work of the Gospel. All of which is meant to show us our need for Christ. Why do "bad" things happen to "good" people? Because we need Christ. The entire cosmos needs the Christ. Our response to pain and suffering and tragedy should be an ever greater desire to share the Gospel, the only hope we have.
