... how even the Superbowl can't make car commercials exciting.
Go Cardinals!

What a game!
For a few minutes there I thought the Cardinals had pulled out a miracle.
This is so off-topic; But, I need a post you guys did at the beginning of the election. It was about how abortion should be the main issue in voting for a Christian, (and not the economy). It was very powerful. I've searched and searched and can't locate it. Could you direct me? Thanks.
Michele, not sure which one you need. I searched "abortion" and probably came up with the same post results you did. The ones around the election time and leading up to it that may fit are these:
One from Phil that has a Piper video
One from Bill on pro-lifers assuming Obama agrees with them
One from me the day before the election talking about the freedom of choice act
There are others before, between, and after those, though.
I guess as a car guy, I thought a couple car ads were cool.
The Audi ad showing the guy jumping in different cars at different time periods as get away cars was funny, if you knew what you were looking at. He jumped in a BMW and Mercedes at a couple of points, then in the present he scans for a suitable hot ride. His eyes fall on a Lexus, and he sighs in disappointment. Then he finds the Audi and makes his escape. A pretty funny slam on Lexus, I thought, but I guess only a car guy would catch it.
The Hyundai one where folks finally learn to pronounce their name ("rhymes with Sunday") was good too.
My favorite was the 1 second spot for Miller where the delivery guy from their other spots is standing in the warehouse with a Miller banner and yells "Highlife!" Not funny in itself (hey, it's only one second), but the back story was clever. It's the Highlife, like you, we don't a lot of money so we can't buy a 30 second Superbowl ad, so we just bought 1 second. He was on Leno last week promoting it. Knowing the background, I laughed out loud when it came on.
I went back and watched the Jordin Sparks on YouTube from last year and thought that there was no comparison. If you really want to feel bad for someone, check out Billy Joel singing the anthem.
uhhhhh . . . No.
Has there ever been a guy who's rocked the anthem? (Hendrix on his guitar does not count - I'm thinking vocally.)
Good question Quaid - how about this one?
Marvin Gaye actually did it at Super Bowl V - but I didn't find it.
....my two favorite are Jordan Sparks (she's underrated as far as American Idols go) and Natalie Cole. Cole got a lot of flack for "infusing" "America the Beautiful" into the national anthem.....I thought it was incredible.
I had to look at the source to find your link - it was broken in the comments.
I don't know if I like the funk vibe (although it was the 70s) behind him, but his voice was pretty smooth. I preferred his anthem in the boxing ring that was linked on the same page. His style reminded me a bit of John Legend - I bet he would do a strong version of the anthem. It's hard to think of guys that could do as well as the ladies. In thinking on the American Idols, I don't think that either of the Davids could do as well.
BTW, I agree that Jordan is underrated, but I still liked Hudson better - who, as an American Idol, was also underrated. Obviously, she vindicated herself with Dreamgirls. With the proper career decisions, she could reach super-stardom (I'm thinking in the realm of Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, etc.). Knowing what she's been through over the past four months may have added to her performance - I don't know. I just thought she brought a good presence with the song and didn't just sing the notes on the page, but really brought to life lines like, "Our flag was still there!"
Sorry for the broken link -
Part of my partiality to Jordan Sparks was her coming to the defense of the Jonas Brothers at the MTV music awards.......the host was ragging on the Jonas Brothers for having "Promise Rings" and Sparks came up as a presenter and spoke up for Promise Rings and displayed hers - solid gal....
Crossbow -
They actually previewed the "commercial" the night before on SNL. There were actually two other "MacGruber" commercials to go along with the one that was shown during the game.
My guess is that they're all up on Hulu with the rest of SNL's stuff. (BTW, it was a pretty lame show, all in all - it's not really worth your time to watch other sketches outside of Armisen's impersonation of the NY Governor or the sketch featuring Steve Martin as an old football player)

The one with Jason Statham was pretty cool, I thought.
But the rest, yeah: meh.
Can't have a good Super Bowl commercial without monkeys, IMHO.
