I just worked on a post on and off all day....and tried to post it. My login had timed out so it's gone forever.

Cut and paste from Word, brother. Cut and paste.
Yes, I know...or at least I should by now. I lost a really good one years ago, and learned my lesson and did everything in word first...but noticed that it slowed down my posting. Just somehow seems simpler to write it at thinklings admin in the first place.
By the way, I have a mac now...so I would write it in pages now. :gmac:
Save as draft, young one. Save as draft.
I think when we upgrade to WP in a bit that it periodically saves for you.
Can you re-create the post?
That's the difference between session-based authentication and cookie-based authentication.... cookie's don't timeout that way, only server-tracked sessions do.
There is a neat trick where when someone logs in, a webapp can set a cookie like this:
As a cookie, it is easy to make it not expire while the browser window is open (or longer). But the server can verify that it handed out that cookie to that user (thus accept it for authentication).
True words, WebDev, but the timeout on Thinklings isn't an accident or a deficiency. It's on purpose.
We'll be moving away from this software soon in any event.
