"Membership in the family of God is neither inconsequential or something to be casually ignored. The church is God's agenda for the world. Jesus said, "I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." The church is indestructable and will exist for eternity. It will outlive this universe, and so will your role in it."

Let's Move On

Apparently Joe Wilson is bringing down South Carolina's tourism industry because scores of people are canceling their planned trips to Myrtle Beach due to last week's public emotional outburst ("You lie!") directed at President Obama.

While his meltdown certainly wasn't laudable, perhaps Democrats and Republicans are making too big a deal of this whole thing? Is the follow-up brouhaha really necessary?

Here's the deal:

Wilson yelled at Obama.

The world gasped.

Wilson apologized.

Obama accepted.

Let's move on.

I hope it's a joke, but I just saw a headline (and didn't care to click on it) that the House is set to debate a resolution to criticize Wilson.

Huh? This is our govt. at work? Passing a resolution "to criticize" someone?

The whole thing, top to bottom, is just stupid.

Where were the calls for censure when Democrats booed President Bush's State of the Union address, when they went before the media and called him a liar, a Nazi, and the devil? The media and the Democrats love to hold the right to a standard that they have no use for.

For the record, Inklingstar, if they went before the media, it was a different context -- at issue is the proper conduct during a joint session of Congress. Booing and cheering are each acceptable. Shouting "You lie!" isn't.

Having said that ... this has taken up more than enough of the nation's time. I agree that it was wrong. So does Rep. Wilson ... demonstrated by his apology.

On the other hand, if they might actually spend time arguing about this rather than spending billions of dollars that we don't have, I might be okay with letting them discuss the merits of criticizing someone all they want!

I really didn't have a problem with what Wilson did. Unless I'm mistaken, the president's address was to congress......not to the media, and not to the public.

In the old days, "in house" presidential addresses were much more spirited - especially when the ramifications of what was presented were monumental in potential impact, like they are now.

There are times when our need to be "in the room" in the modern era just gets in the way of healthy banter.

That said, since it was public, the apology was needed.

Pro Inklingstar, Contra Wickle:

Booing and cheering are each acceptable.

I don't know who decided that booing during a State of the Union address is acceptable. I sure don't think it is, and neither do alot of other people. I'm with Inklingstar. The Dems are engaging in some heavy duty selective amnesia here.

Shouting "You lie!" isn't.

We're in agreement there.

But to the original point, yes, let's move on, please. This morning, NPR was interviewing some guest who said that minorities are seeing Wison's outburst as continuing evidence of racism. Sheesh!

I agree with nhe.

Someone finally gets a "pulse" and shows some emotion. Joe Wilson was clearly filled with emotion at the time he made the statement and it got the best of him. At least we can say he somewhat cares about his job / America?

Ah, but we can't have people showing any emotion, can we? Us Americans are civilized creatures ready to evolve to the "next level". Perhaps the Vulcan high command will start recruiting us (sorry, I couldn't resist the sarcasm).
