"Membership in the family of God is neither inconsequential or something to be casually ignored. The church is God's agenda for the world. Jesus said, "I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." The church is indestructable and will exist for eternity. It will outlive this universe, and so will your role in it."

Lost: "Because You Left"/"The Lie"

Ok, I finally was able to watch the Lost premier. We had our College/Young Singles over to watch it tonight; it was a fun time.

There are already two good posts on the premier, below, so I won't write much on it. Just some observations with mild spoilers.

First, I thought it was a good premier. Not a great one, but a good one. The time jumping is cool, but it also has me concerned that it's a desperation move on the writers' part to have a device that will help them cook up new plot-lines out of thin air. If you can jump around to any time you want, it really opens things up. But that's the cynical view - we'll see.

Favorite moment: The flaming arrows! I tend to agree with the person who wrote that they must have gone way back in time and that the warriors of some ancient society are shooting at them.

A very close second: When Sayid attacked Jack and almost did him in. *Sigh* What could have been . . .

Hurley remains the moral center of the show.

Sawyer has become, behind Hurley, my favorite character among the males.

Among the females? I'm not sure what I think of Sun the Gangsta. So - and this will be a minority position - I'm going with Juliet.

I'm looking forward to Season Five!

i thought the same thing about the time travel being an easy out to do whatever. i was afraid my lone voice might be lambasted.

i very cynically thought "lost has jumped the shark." they time travel every two minutes. jury's still out. it's hard to tell when a show that outrageous jumps the shark. same with 24. the true sign will be crossover eps where jack and jack work in tandem... of course if that happens, i will NOT be complaining.

Will you remind me when Sayid attacked Jack? My memory fails.

3. Jared - 01/24/2009 5:26 pm CST

When Jack was reviving him, Sayid was delirious or whatever.

And MAN! Bill's cheap shot only reminds me of more Jack awesomeness.
He freaking brought your pansy-wass Sayid BACK TO LIFE.

And of the awesomeness of Jack there is no end.

And of the awesomeness of Jack there is no end.

That may be true. But how comfortable were you in this episode seeing Jack playing the role of Ben's monkey-boy?

Ahhhhh...LOST. An entire new season of hearing Jared and Bill debate the awesomeness of Jack. This and this alone would be enough to make me a fan of the show.

Ben's monkey-boy
Heh.

Finally finished the second ep last night. It was great! They've got to play the time travel thing correctly or they are in danger of jumping the monkey-boy.

Speaking of monkey-boy. It appears that the goal is for Ben to make everyone his monkey-boy. And if that's the only way for them to get back to the island, then that's what's going to happen. I'm seeing a Hurley jail break coming soon ...

The time travel element had me thinking "whatever" about the flaming arrows and the soldier dudes who tried to cut off Juliette's paw. If they can be anywhere in time right now, it's no use trying to figure out who those people are.

I agree, Bill. I am starting to get a bloody nose...with the new soldier guys out of nowhere, I am starting to lose my constant. ;-)

Lost is still totally cool...they just need to be careful.

I thought the time-jumping thing got exhausting.
I was also a bit sad when they killed off the peripheral character; he was funny and interesting. It seems like the ones they kill off always are. I really liked the school-teacher, too.
I really want them to deal soon with why Kate is raising Aaron, in direct contradiction to what the physic said. "He must be raised by you!"
Did anyone else notice how Juliet looked all bored and comprehending when Daniel explained time-travel. She was all like "Ah yes, they teach that in med school." Sort of annoying.
I choked up when Hurley's mom believed him. What a sweet moment.
Wasn't it random and funny how Sawyer wanted a shirt?

Also, our family thinks that Sun has gone evil and might be working for Widmore.

Also, our family thinks that Sun has gone evil and might be working for Widmore.

She definitely looks like she's hiding something.

I agree, Bill. I am starting to get a bloody nose...

Yeah, and you keep blacking out for an hour at a time, claiming you had just been on a carousel. Strange.

Remember, Billboy is your constant!

I think Sun's gone over to the dark side. Actually, pretty much everyone has except for Hurley, Sawyer (who's one of the more admirable characters on the show now) and Juliet (who left the dark side).

I heard a new theory today that's probably already been discussed here but I thought it was pretty cool. Remember the Adam and Eve skeletons in the cave in Season 1?

Jack and Kate.

"Remember the Adam and Eve skeletons in the cave in Season 1? "

I don't think it's Jack and Kate as that would mean that they would have died BEFORE the island's time-traveling ways were settled. I don't necessarily believe they'll live through the finale, but I do believe the island will be "fixed" before then and that they'll be alive to see it.

If anyone watched the preview to Season 5, after the show ended, there were a bunch of clips that included Gangsta-Sun holding a knife to Ben's throat. Increible.

It's pretty much all aligning for them to get back together. Sayid and Jack are together. Bentham's waiting with the butcher (have we seen her before?). Kate, Aaron and Sun are together. They all team up, get Abadon to help them break the Hurlster out of jail and go for it.

SO: Here are my discussion questions, just one day before the next ep:

1. Where/When do you think Jin is?
2. Is the priestess Faraday's mom? If so, how can she be in LA with Ben Linus and in Oxford to meet up with Des?
3. Speaking of, is Desmond required to go back? If so, he needs to get to LA ASAP.
4. Also speaking of question 3, if priestess is Faraday's mom, is it possible that Faraday and Priestess are Others?*

*No one has spoken on the fact that Faraday was in the Willie Nelson-era 70's about to do something to the energy core looking strikingly similar to the Faraday of the 2000's as if he HADN'T AGED. Alpert, Abadon, Faraday, his mom, etc.

5. Also, speaking of question 3, are the others able to time/space travel? That would explain an ability to get back from LA to Oxford. It also sets up the possibility that Faraday does something "special" to get off/back on the island. What would compel him to do that? A dying CS Lewis, perhaps?

13. Quaid - 01/27/2009 9:07 am CST

Also, did we get an indicator of where Penny and Desmond were? Where are they coming from to get to England?

14. Michele - 01/27/2009 3:08 pm CST

I think the priestess is Faraday's mom and she's in Oxford, not LA The chalkboards suggest a school of some sort, I'm sure there are secret-looking places like that in Oxford. Ben traveled to her, not she to him. You know how Ben gets around.

15. Quaid - 01/27/2009 7:55 pm CST

"You know how Ben gets around."

Actually, no I don't. Am I not remembering something? Isn't he bound by space/time (except for landing in the desert after cranking the Island's soulja boy in the Orchid Station)?

16. Michele - 01/27/2009 9:04 pm CST

Yes, that's what I'm talking about.
