I'll be live-blogging tonight's show.
*** Spoilers Follow ***
Did I put enough space here for ya? Seriously, spoilers follow! :-)
I'm currently watching last week's show, and they just showed Hurley's betrayal. Which really ticks me off. Writers, keep your hands - scriptly speaking - off Hurley! Hurley is at all things good and true, and he would never betray his friends.
Oh, best line of last week's show, by Hurley, of course: "I saw you snap that guy's neck with that break-dancing thing you do with your legs. I think I'll hang back here"
Waiting for this week's show to start . . .
It starts . . .
Locke's eye. This looks like he's in Other-town. What was that book?
Locke has taken Ben prisoner. Locke is trying to match wits with Ben. And Ben's royally playing with his mind.
For Ben this is like shooting fish in a barrel.
* * *
Sawyer and Kate. Is it weird to anyone else that they no longer call each other by their nicknames?
Drat! This is a Kate show.
Flash back (or forward?)
Kate's on trial. She is pleading not guilty. And this is a flash-forward, because she has "one of the most recognizable faces in the country".
* * * Commercial * * *
Sun and Jin! Yes!
"I learn English for you. To live in America." Jin rocks! Sun! You gotta know that Jin rocks!
Back to Kate. She stayed with Locke - why? Locke is a dictator.
But Kate's up to something.
"You just totally scooby-dood me, didn't ya?" - Heh, Hurley!
Miles is in the boathouse. Kate's trying to figure out if Miles knows her. "Do you know what I did?" Miles wants one minute of time with Ben, and he'll tell Kate "everything I know about you". Which, since she's not dead, I'm guessing is zero.
Flash-forward. Kate's in an orange jumpsuit. Her lawyer wants to make the case about Kate's character (yeah, like that's a winning strategy). But he wants to use her son in the courtroom. No way, says Kate.
* * * Commercial * * *
Jack's trying to get ahold of the boat. Juliet just told Jack to call 9-1-1. Ha! But, seriously, it's a satellite phone, right? Couldn't they call anyone? Their mom? The police? Just so people would know they're still alive?
And that phone has some serious battery life.
Back to Otherton. Kate is planning on getting Ben to Miles, and is pumping the naive and unaccountably cheerful (considering the recent death of her rockstar boyfriend) Claire for information. Man, Cholly. I think Claire's already forgotten about you.
Flash-forward to Kate's trial.
Her lawyer is calling Jack to the stand. Evidently this isn't something Kate wanted, as the lawyer asked her not to fire him before he called Jack up.
This is the clean-shaven Jack.
Jack just lied about the Marshall. "I never spoke to him". Eh? He died in your care, Jack!
"Only eight of us survived the crash." Liar!!! Supposedly Kate saved Jack who was "hurt badly," along with trying to save the others. Two of them died (leaving six).
Jack just told the cross-examination that he doesn't love Kate.
Back to Otherton. I love Hurley/Sawyer scenes. Heh - they are watching Xanadu.
Drat, Kate just showed up. Sawyer, she's playing you man!
Sawyer is too smart. "At least be woman enough to tell me you want to use me for something". Gotta respect Sawyer.
"I want you to help me bust him [Ben] out".
Let me get this straight: Kate wants Sawyer to bust Ben out so she can take him to Miles who has great insight into dead people but has shown no special skill at dealing with the living. And when she takes Ben to Miles so he can "have one minute with him," Miles is going to tell Kate what he knows about her (which might be, and most likely is, nothing). Why?
* * * Commercial * * *
Heh. Sawyer to Locke: "Wanna play some Backgammon?" This does remind me of that awesome Backgammon scene with Locke and Waaaaaaalt way back in season one.
Sawyer's conning Locke. That's obvious to everyone (except Locke). This is easier than running over kittens with a steamroller.
Switch to Kate and Miles. Miles has gotten his one minute.
"You know who I am? You know who I work for?" Ben knows all, of course.
Heh. Miles is trying to extort money from Ben. Ben's too smart for this guy. 3.2 million in cash! Ben must be pretty well-off.
Whoa. I was wrong, Miles knows everything about Kate because, of course, the sinister freighter people checked the manifest). He's telling her she should stay on the island. I agree.
Kate's also really manhandling him. And Locke is waving his gun around like the murderous, barking lunatic that he is.
* * * Commercial * * *
Back in Otherton, a morose Kate and a seriously relaxed, non-grieving Claire.
Locke is in the house now. And - smart decision - he's kicking Kate out! She's not welcome anymore. Well done John!
Flash-forward. Kate is meeting with her mom in a room in the courthouse, I presume. Her mom looks seriously ill.
"Is it true that you're a hero?"
"It all changed when I thought you were dead." Her mom doesn't want to testify against Kate. She wants to see her grandson.
"You came here to make a deal!" Kate seems a little to righteously angry about this.
No, Kate. She wants to see her grandson! Man! You kill her husband and won't even let her see her grandson? Man!
Kate me no likee.
Back to Otherton. Kate and Sawyer.
"What, he banished you? Well I un-banish you!" Sawyer, I can't believe I'm saying this, but you're too good for Kate.
Heh - "Me and Montezuma's house" overlayed with the sound of Hurley flushing the toilet. Classic!
Back to the beach. The physicist Faraday and C.S. Lewis are doing a card trick, or a card game, or something with cards. Evidently, Faraday has problems with his memory.
Jack's grousing about not being able to call the boat. Charlotte is going to use the emergency number. She called Regina.
Evidently the helicopter never made it. It's been more than a day.
* * * Commercial * * *
Back in the beach house, and Miles is strung up. I always wonder how these hostages go to the bathroom . . . but I digress.
John is "responsible for the well-being of this island". John, that hand grenade thing is actually a pretty cool stunt.
But responsible for the well-being of the island?
Ok, gross love scene with Sawyer and Kate. People on TV never have morning-breath either.
"Would it [me being pregnant, says Kate] have been the worst thing in the world?"
"Yes! Yes it would have been the worst thing in the world!" Heh, Sawyer.
Kate's going back to the beach. She just slapped Sawyer for telling the unvarnished truth. She is evil.
Flash-forward. I have a feeling that it's not good lawyering to dress the accused all in sinister-looking black. Any lawyers out there?
Kate's mom can't testify due to "medical reasons". Actually, she just doesn't want to testify against her daughter. Kate's taking a deal: ten years probation and Kate won't leave the state.
R-i-i-i-g-h-t.
And here's Jack. Still no beard. And he didn't mean to say he doesn't love Kate. And I think he's asking her out on a date. But he doesn't want to see the baby. And until he wants to, "there's no you or me going for coffee". Why doesn't Jack want to see the baby? I think we're supposed to think it's because the baby is Sawyer's.
I have a feeling we're about to find out something important here . . .
Kate's home. Nice house.
She has a nanny. Of course, she's rich, like all the other Oceanic six.
Who's this kid? Aaron?
Yep!
My opinion: This was the weakest of the first four shows. Still good, but not great. Too much Kate.
Anyone know why this was called Eggtown? The only thing about eggs that I remember is that Locke served Ben the last two eggs. Help?
Previews:
"The worse thing that could happen to these survivors is a rescue." Looks like next week's will be a cool show! It's a Desmond show! Looks like they showed a glimpse of a Desmond flash-forward.

one of the unlucky two who didn't become famous as one of the Oceanic SIx?
Those two supposedly died of injuries after the crash, right?
Also, remember Jack said they landed in the water. Brings to mind the shots of the submerged faux-815 from two weeks ago.
Anyone notice how John Locke is becoming more and more like Ben in his actions?
The psychic originally warned Claire that danger surrounded Aaron and that no one but her should raise him. Was Desmond's vision wrong, or will Claire at least get on the helicopter? I wonder if Jack knows he's Aaron's (half) uncle and why he doesn't want to see him.
The trial was a joke, but I am thinking there might be something to the theory floated over at The Fuselage that the trial was a sham either orchestrated by Abbadon or Ben.
For all the other things that the writers have focused on details, the procedure of this trial was just ridiculous.
I'm trying to wrap my mind around people believing that Aaron is actually Kate's kid since she would have had to be 9 months preggers at the time of the crash, right? And she def was not hugely preggers at the time of the crash and there have to be plenty of witnesses who would have come forward to say so when the Oceanic 6 returned.
I also don't get Jack's antipathy towards the kid if he knows he's Aaron. There's no reason for him to not like Aaron simply because Kate adopted him when they were rescued.
This episode makes no sense.
Jen, I figured that Jack didn't want to see Aaron because the baby reminded him of what happened/what the Oceanic 6 did to get off the island. Maybe something happened to Claire and he feels responsible???
That's my guess, at least.
From the top:
Kate also has entered into her worst nightmare---responsible, tied down to one place for the next ten years.
I don't know why this is her nightmare. After living life on the run, it seems like a "normal" life would be her dream. What am I forgetting that makes the Kate-settling-down thing a nightmare?
"Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley, . . . and?"
Aaron, right? Didn't the promo for the show relay that we'd find out another one of the Oceanic Six? Aaron is the only one it could be.
My guess as to how Kate calls him her son is that she "rescued" Claire as one of the original eight, Claire "dies" (either in childbirth or thereafter) and wills Aaron to Kate. If they're only on the island a few months, there's no way she could have conceived and birthed a child. The world accepts Aaron as Kate's son since it was Claire's dying wish that her savior be the mother of her surviving child.
"Anyone notice how John Locke is becoming more and more like Ben in his actions?
Not really - how so???
"I wonder if Jack knows he's Aaron's (half) uncle and why he doesn't want to see him."
EXACTLY! I think that this knowledge combined with the reminder of the people who are left on the island is enough for Jack to not want to see Aaron.
Calvinator- Explain the trial as a sham theory. A sham for the sake of the public? For the sake of Kate/Jack/Oceanic 6?
Any insight into "Eggtown".
I was reminded on another forum that not only were those the last two eggs, Locke also killed the chicken.
Locke has lost it.
"Anyone notice how John Locke is becoming more and more like Ben in his actions?"
I think Locke is becoming more ruthless and deranged. But he's nowhere near as competent as Ben is at evil-overlordship.
Speaking of Ben: I'm starting to like him again. A lot. I think he really is one of the good guys, and we're going to find that out somewhere in this show (past patricides and dharmacides not withstanding. . . )
Yeah. I'm gonna have trouble reconciling "good guy" with mass murder.
Yeah. I'm gonna have trouble reconciling "good guy" with mass murder.
Well, yes, there is that minor detail . . .
But he's also shown restraint. He could easily have killed Sayid, Jin and Bernard.
I thought he was wanting to hold on to them for future bargaining, not because he was merciful.
True.
But considering the Losties had just whacked a dozen of his people . . .
I'm not going to argue that Ben is good in the moral, personal definition of the word. More that perhaps (just perhaps) his overall objective is a good one, and not pure evil.
Locke, on the other hand . . . at this point - pure evil.
Aaron, right? Didn't the promo for the show relay that we'd find out another one of the Oceanic Six? Aaron is the only one it could be.
I'm kinda hoping that Aaron isn't in the count (because he wasn't a passenger on the plane) and that Sun and Jin are the fifth and sixth seeds.
But he's also shown restraint. He could easily have killed Sayid, Jin and Bernard.
Wait. He intended that they be killed, though. The dudes on the beach didn't shoot them. I always assumed that they went off the reservation.
This show makes my head hurt.
Technically, Aaron wasn't a passenger. However, he was the ultimate passenger.

Also.. How is this the weakest of all four?? i found it to be the best one yet this season, i just loooove crazy-i-don't-know-what-i-want kate, besides, badass Locke feeding hand grenades to ghost-buster Milles? come on! this was great, we both love the show, but for totally different reasons i think, I just wish we had some more Sayid time.. and bring back Eko, god i miss Eko and his holy stick
"Also.. How is this the weakest of all four?? i found it to be the best one yet this season, i just loooove crazy-i-don't-know-what-i-want kate"
Well, it's subjective, of course. Kate is one of my least favorite characters. I just find her irritating. Verrrry irritating.
But I'm glad you enjoyed it! I enjoyed it too - just my least favorite of the four so far. I felt the same way last season, having to endure the Kate, Sawyer, Jack love triangle for the first half of the season. They salvaged last season when they got away from that and got back to the beach. For me, last year's season turned around for the better the moment Shambala started playing on the Hurley van 8-track :-)
"Wait. He intended that they be killed, though. The dudes on the beach didn't shoot them. I always assumed that they went off the reservation."
Actually, they wanted to kill them. Tom is very frustrated afterwards - remember he said something like "We should have killed them rather than shooting three bullets into the sand!"
They didn't kill them because Ben told them not to.
Again - I'm not saying Ben is good, as in moral. I'm just not convinced we know yet who the good or bad people really are.
And some of the Losties could easily qualify as bad people. Kate, for instance. And Locke. And Sawyer. They've all killed people in cold blood. (Kate's stepdad, that poor guy in Australia, Naomi)
If Ben is good, then so is Locke. His overarching concern is that the island's "purity" be maintained, which I thought was Ben's concern too. Their personal beef appears to be about power (at least for Ben).
I can't see how Ben could be considered good in an overarching way, but not Locke. In both cases, you kind of have to go the "ends justify the means" route to consider them good.
Ben might be a bad man engaged in a good cause.
I said "might"
I'm taking a lot of heat for this stance. I think I might back away from it :-)
"And some of the Losties could easily qualify as bad people. Kate, for instance. And Locke. And Sawyer. They've all killed people in cold blood. (Kate's stepdad, that poor guy in Australia, Naomi)"
Well, maybe you wouldn't consider it cold blood, but don't forget Locke's Dad.
I just now watched the episode and realize I am late to the game. This might not even get answered but someone above mentioned the pychic's warning to Claire about Aaron way back in the first season. I remember thinking that episode was really creepy and I wondered then how that would unravel. In fact, I remember thinking that I would have to wait ten seasons or something crazy to find out why he was so creeped out by Aaron.
I have often wondered if the writers just "forgot" about that. Do we think that is ever going to come up again? Maybe this episode gave me some hope that it will. I loved it by the way.
Yep, I thought so. Kate also has entered into her worst nightmare---responsible, tied down to one place for the next ten years. However, she looks as if she's enjoying it right now, anyway. Of course, we haven't yet reached suicidal, drug addicted Jack yet either. And maybe Sayid's not an assassin at the time of the events in Kate's flashback.
What I want to know is: did Kate steal Claire's baby? Does the world know that Aaron isn't Kate's baby? I'm thinking not, since Kate's mom thought the baby was her grandson. So is Claire supposed to have died in the plane crash, or was she one of the eight survivors, one of the unlucky two who didn't become famous as one of the Oceanic SIx?
Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley, . . . and?
