"Membership in the family of God is neither inconsequential or something to be casually ignored. The church is God's agenda for the world. Jesus said, "I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." The church is indestructable and will exist for eternity. It will outlive this universe, and so will your role in it."

Lost: Everybody Loves Hugo

This week's Lost live-blog will commence shortly, albeit a little delayed, as I am waiting for my better half to arrive home.

This appears to be a Hurley episode and, as such, it will no doubt be awesome (the episode, not my blogging).

***** Major Spoilers Below The Fold *****

On second thought . . .

Guys, I'm too tired and Jill's not home yet, so I'm probably not even going to watch the show tonight.

If another Thinkling wants to take the liveblogging duties tonight, go for it.

Otherwise, all, discuss the show in the comment thread.

Good night all.

I won't spoil it for you, Bill, except to say that this episode made me yell at my TV much more than usual. Holy SMOKES. (Er. No pun intended.)

2. Evan - 04/14/2010 12:02 am CDT

After this episode, I think my speculation from last week about Desmond now being a reincarnated Jacob in some form might actually be right. Well, probably still unlikely, but it does seem he is channeling him.

Great episode. And previews for next week looked pretty amazing. Looks like it might be an all out plot moving sprint to the finale now.

3. jen - 04/14/2010 5:19 am CDT

Very good episode. Hugo is awesome.

Evan may be on to something.

And that's all I have to say - still processing since I just watched it.

4. Shauna - 04/14/2010 8:11 am CDT

I'm still so shocked by the last scene that I don't even know what to think. I hope good Desmond falls through a portal or something.

5. Shauna - 04/14/2010 8:24 am CDT

What has been bugging me is why didn't sideways Desmond recognize Ben from his other life? Ben tried to kill him, too. Maybe I'm assuming too much and revenge isn't why he ran down real Locke, who he wrongly thought was the one who pushed him.

6. jen - 04/14/2010 8:58 am CDT

It didn't think revenge when Desmond hit Locke. Actually, I don't know what I thought, but it wasn't that. More like Desmond was trying to put things where they should be?

The whole time he and FLocke were standing at the well I knew Des was going in. Me no likey that one bit.

7. Shrode - 04/14/2010 9:03 am CDT

Oh, and how many "answers" did we get last night?

One.

We were told that the whispers were dead people who did something bad and couldn't leave the island.

Could be significant...or not?

Other than that we heard the question, "What is the island?" asked but not answered.

And we were told about the wells. That may or may not be significant, but I guess it was information.

8. Shrode - 04/14/2010 9:04 am CDT

Bill, DO NOT READ THIS COMMENT THREAD BEFORE YOU SEE THE EPISODE! MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!

And I'm guilty of a few...sorry!

9. Brian - 04/14/2010 10:57 am CDT

First off, yay for Hugo and Libby!

Now, who the heck are these kids that keep popping up? Locke/MIB sure doesn't seem to like them very much.

I think Desmond was trying to "wake up" Locke. Similar to how Charlie tried to wake Des up by sending his car into the ocean.

10. Shauna - 04/14/2010 12:57 pm CDT

Desmond may also be making it so that Locke and Jack meet (in the hospital).

11. jen - 04/14/2010 1:25 pm CDT

Good point.

12. stroke - 04/14/2010 1:40 pm CDT

isn't des working for widmore? maybe side(ways) impact locke is smokey and widmore put a hit out on him... of course any hitman worth his salt would be sure to, ahem, get the job done rather than just bump and run. so yeah, perhaps a meeting is being arranged.

and who is this mowgli character runnin about the jungle? young des? young jacob? young widmore? none of the above?

ok, back to not theorizing... how about that death by explosion? nice.

13. gretchen from lifenut - 04/14/2010 3:01 pm CDT

Shrode---Jacob gave Richard the answer in Ab Aeterno. The island is a cork that keep evil from escaping.

14. Michele - 04/14/2010 5:22 pm CDT

OK--if the "Whispers" are folks who are stuck after death, why would Walt appear with them?

15. Manders - 04/14/2010 5:52 pm CDT

Also, note well: Hurley did not have a mirror moment.

16. Bill - 04/14/2010 7:40 pm CDT

I just watched it. Great episode.

Shrode. Don't worry - the answers will come. For my part, I love Lost and have never been one of the puzzle-solvers - I like the answers reeled out slow

Ilana getting blowd up. Wow. I knew it was going to happen too - I usually am not one who sees things coming but both her blow up and Des's well drop were very telegraphed.

No idea what's going on in sideways world or island world. Very confused.

Yeah, who's the kid? I think he's the person running the whole show, setting the rules of the game.

Did anyone catch this? During the previews for next week they were playing a Gene Wilder quote from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate factory.

Also, a quick bleg: I need a Thinkling to live-blog next week. If none is forthcoming, I'll take a guest poster. I won't be able to catch the show when it airs due to a conflict.

17. Bill - 04/14/2010 7:52 pm CDT

I may ask Jared, but he appears to have forsaken us . . .

In other words . . . we're doomed . . .

18. Bill - 04/14/2010 7:56 pm CDT

I wonder . . .

All these dead people that Hurley sees - Isabella, Michael, etc. I wonder if they are all Smokey.

And I include dead Jacob in that. I wonder if he's Smokey too (meaning, the version of Jacob that keeps showing himself to Hurley). Because MIB killed Jacob, and I think, in the Lost world, "dead is dead". Maybe MIB's pulling all the strings now, just trying to get off the island. The only strange apparition who isn't Smokie is that darn mysterious young Anakin Skywalker who keeps showing up.

And didn't Michael confirm that the island's purgatory, or a kind of purgatory? But we know it's not, because the writer's swore up and down it isn't. So Michael is just Smokie, pulling Hugo's strings.

19. the sentinel - 04/15/2010 4:10 am CDT

May I just say that the conversation between Hugo and his mom was five minutes of awesomeness? I love her character.
That is all.

20. Shrode - 04/15/2010 8:37 am CDT

I nominate Andrew to Live-blog the next one. He would be awesome.

21. Bill - 04/15/2010 6:14 pm CDT

I agree. But I'm not sure he'd want to.

22. Michele - 04/15/2010 10:45 pm CDT

Sentinel--yes! I've always loved the relationship between Hurley and his mom.

23. Andrew - 04/16/2010 4:33 am CDT

I'd be happy to do it, assuming I can find a place to watch Lost. :-)

24. Bill - 04/16/2010 10:17 am CDT

Awesome - let me know if/when you've got a place for viewing lined up Andrew and I'll set you up

25. Michele - 04/16/2010 10:18 am CDT

What a touching moment on Thinklings; The live-blog torch passes to the next generation....

26. Alan K. Henderson - 04/16/2010 12:02 pm CDT

Someone (Ben?) said that Smokey is stuck in Locke form, so I think the ghosts visiting Hurley are the genuine article.

If MIB wanted to trick Hurley, he'd disguise himself as someone other than than the guy who killed Hurley's one and only girlfriend.

Remember when Ben shot the real Locke and left him for dead in the DHARMA mass grave? Locke was strong in the Island Force - and he got healed. MIB leaves Desmond for dead in a well - but will the island heal Desmond as it healed Locke?

Maybe they could borrow a bit of dialog from Eroes:

Sylar: "I thought I killed you."

Peter: "It didn't take."

Just thinking about the Walt's mysterious appearances after his capture. That may be a result of Walt's own paranormal ability, employed in an attempt to reach the Lostaways.

27. Bill - 04/16/2010 5:14 pm CDT

Yes, Smocke broke the #1 rule of TV murders - don't ever leave the body without making sure it's truly shuffled off this mortal coil.

There are so many other ways Locke could have killed Desmond, rather than throwing him in a deep but not crazy deep well. Heck, he could have just smoke monstered him. So I don't get what he's thinking. Big mistake for Smokie, I'm guessing.

28. Jared - 04/16/2010 6:29 pm CDT

I'm pretty sure I can do it.

I was out of town most of this week. Sorry to be incommunicado.

29. Bill - 04/17/2010 12:19 am CDT

Jared,

sounds good. You're it for next week.

And, yes, I was getting worried and was about to put out an APB :-)

(j/k - I knew you were at T4G)
