"Membership in the family of God is neither inconsequential or something to be casually ignored. The church is God's agenda for the world. Jesus said, "I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." The church is indestructable and will exist for eternity. It will outlive this universe, and so will your role in it."

- Rick Warren
Lost: LeFleur

We're about to watch this week's episode, and I think I'll live-blog it tonight.

It's been a really good season so far, don't you think?

******** Major Spoilers below the fold ********

Previouslies: The previouslies contain a lot of great stuff from the Locke/Sawyer/Daniel/Miles/Juliet/C.S. Lewis/JIN! island days, with an ominous teaser that this will be a "Sawyer loves Kate" episode. Please, no.

We're at the well (well, at least where it used to be or will be in the future), and Locke has just disappeared. Miles spots a tall statue in the distance (which I'll bet has four toes. You think?) that would indicate they are way before the Dharma days. And then Locke flashes them. This flash, Miles notes as he writhes on the ground in agony, is different. "More like an earthquake."

But now their headaches are gone, the well is back (but filled in), and there are no more nosebleeds.

"I think it's over. I think John did it," says Juliet.

"Now what?" asks Jin?

"Now we wait for him to come back," replies Sawyer. (Note the continued Christ-references when it comes to John).

"How long?"

"As long as it takes." THREE YEARS!

A seventies couple dances in a hatch. A nice pristine hatch. "You having a hootenanny?!" Heh. The couple is Rosie and Jerry. Their tense friend is nervous they'll get caught. There are some mentions of various Dharma references, such as polar bears. And a mention of "LeFleur".

Rose sees a drunk Horace on the screens. He's playing with dynamite (literally). They all seem pretty concerned about waking up LeFleur (it's 3:00 am).

The two hatch guys go and report to LeFleur. SAWYER!!!!

**** Commercial ****

Sawyer/LeFleur picks up Miles in a Dharma van. Miles calls him "boss" and I note that Sawyer refers to Horace as "our fearless leader".

Sawyer and Miles go to pick up Horace. Sawyer takes him home to tell "Amy" (Horace's sig oth, I'm assuming). She's pregnant. Evidently Amy (who calls Sawyer "Jim") says that she and Horace had a fight. About "Paul".

Evidently she's very pregnant. The baby is coming. (I also think this is the actress who played Michelle on 24 in the first few seasons).

OK, now we're THREE YEARS EARLIER! My nose is starting to bleed.

Juliet and Sawyer come upon an incoherent, mumbling Daniel, but Charlotte is no longer there.

"I'm not gonna tell her," Daniel states. He seems very broken up. Evidently in the last flash Charlotte's body disappeared.

"She moved on. We stayed," Daniel whimpers. "Whenever we are now, we're here for good."

Sawyer wants to head back to the beach.

"What, you didn't get enough flaming arrows shot at you?" I love Miles.

Juliet agrees with Sawyer, but that's because she has a crush on Sawyer.

Miles notes, insightfully, "Orchid or beach, it's the only two plans you people have."

They head back to the beach because Sawyer's in charge. On the way back Juliet and Sawyer flirt.

They hear gunshots. Sawyer and Juliet have rifles (where did they get those?). They hear a woman screaming. It looks like she's about to be executed by some thugs who put a hood over her head.

Juliet is ruminating. She doesn't recognize these Dharma folks but is calculating we're now in the 70s.

Miles asks Daniel if they should get involved.

"It doesn't matter. Whatever happened, happened," says Daniel. I don't think he cares much.

Sawyer and Juliet blow the thugs away.

The woman is someone I don't recognize. Or is it Amy? She doesn't even say thanks, just asks Sawyer who they are. Yes, it's Amy.

**** Commercial ****

Sawyer tells Amy that they shipwrecked - they were from Haiti Tahiti.

Amy is saying they need to bury the thugs. And they need to bring "Paul", a passed out, Dharma jumpsuit guy, back home. Jin carries Paul, who's dead, not passed out (sorry). Paul was Amy's husband.

Suddenly Juliet shouts. They almost walked into the sonic pylon. Good thing she noticed that and they get Amy to turn it off. Or so they think, but really Amy just pretends to (she has earplugs, cleverly hidden in her ears). Everyone but Amy passes out (comically, right when Sawyer was in the midst of talking about how they all need to trust each other more).

Back to THREE YEARS LATER. Amy is in labor, and the baby is breach. All they have is this clueless intern who doesn't know how to deliver breach babies so Sawyer marches over and gets Juliet, who is now a mechanic, specializing in Dharma hippie vans.

Juliet's not enthusiastic about helping Amy deliver, because her track record of successful deliveries on this island is . . . zero. Sawyer speculates that since they are before the time when the fertility deaths happened, everything will be fine.

Amy doesn't want Juliet to do it. They have a history of some sort, I'm guessing. But wants Juliet to do it, so Juliet continues.

Sawyer loiters outside, chatting with Jin, who says they "finished grid 123 today". I don't have any idea what that means.

Juliet walks out. She's all teary, but everything's OK.

It's a boy.

**** Commercial ****

Cut to Sawyer, who just woke up on a couch. I think we're THREE YEARS EARLIER again. Horace is standing next to him.

"Amy told me what happened in the jungle and I certainly appreciate what you did". As Sawyer notes, they have a funny way of showing it. Horace explains that they have to be careful because of the indigenous hostiles, and they have to follow certain protocols.

"My name's James LeFleur," Sawyer lies. So Sawyer made that name up? He spins his tale of a shipwreck, and that they were searching for an old slave vessel called "The Black Rock". Horace pretends not to know what that is, but since he had dynamite in the earlier scene (even though it's really THREE YEARS LATER), I don't buy it. Sawyer is very good at lying, by the way.

Horace offers to send Sawyer and his friends off in a submarine first thing in the morning. That will take them to Tahiti. Sawyer says they need to stay to look for their lost crew-mates.

Daniel, Juliet and Miles are hanging around, waiting to hear what's going to happen. While they wait, Daniel sees C.S. Lewis as a little girl. She waves at him. It's almost too much for him.

"LeFleur" is creole (Sawyer improvised). Just then, the hostiles alarm begins ringing.

Some dude walks toward them with a torch. Oh look, it's Richard.

"Uh oh"

**** Commercial ****

Horace walks out to meet Richard. Evidently there's a truce that has been broken, because two of Richard's men have been killed.

Back inside, Horace gives some orders: "Call the arrow, tell them we're at condition one, bring the heavy ordnance"

Sawyer wants to go talk to Richard ("the guy with the eyeliner," heh). Sawyer saunters out to the park bench where Richard is sitting, and explains the situation. First of all, he's not a member of the Dharma initiative.

"Then what are you?"

Sawyer mentions Jughead, and asks if they buried it. He also brings this up: "twenty years ago some bald fellow limped into your camp and fed you some mumbo-jumbo about being your leader"

"Still think I'm a member of the Dharma initiative?"

Richard: "No, I guess not"

Richard's people still need some kind of justice, unfortunately.

Amy mourns over the body of Paul. Evidently this is the payment Richard's people require; they want Paul's body.

Horace says it's her choice. Amy agrees that they can take the body. She wants a minute with him first, though.

She takes a wooden cross Ankh from around Paul's neck.

Random, but is it just me, or does Horace seem heavier and older than he did last year when he appeared (undead, of course) to Locke?

Horace gives them two more weeks before they have to leave. In a conversation with Sawyer Juliet says she wants to leave now. She's been trying to get off this island for three years, she reminds him.

Sawyer reminds her that it's 1974. He gives her his best grin and drawls, "What about me? You're going to leave me here with the mad scientist and Mr. 'I speak to dead people'?"

He charms her into giving him two weeks. That Sawyer, he's smooth.

"Ok," she smiles, "Two weeks"

THREE YEARS LATER. D'oh!

Sawyer picks a flower. I'm guessing that he and Juliet are an item by now. Yep, they are on a Dharma date, complete with Dharma bubbly. In their own Dharma house. He gives her the flower. Wow, she looks happy.

"You were amazing today," he says.

"Thank you for believing in me," she replies. And they make out and tell each other that they love each other.

**** Commercial ****

Sawyer/LeFleur is hanging out with a passed-out Horace.

He gives the good news/bad news to Horace. Good news: "You're a daddy"

Bad news: "You missed it"

Horace is pretty disappointed to have missed the birth of his son. He tells why they were fighting. It's because he found Paul's cross Ankh in her sock drawer. Seems like a silly thing to fight over.

Horace asks, "it's been three years since he's been gone. Is that really long enough to get over someone?" Heh. Sawyer says he can barely remember what Kate looks like. Good for him. I like Juliet a lot more than Kate anyway. (Jill throws a pillow at me).

Juliet and Sawyer, spooning. Gag (but not as gag as Sawyer/Kate or Jack/Kate). The phone rings. I'm guessing this is Jin, calling to tell him who he's found.

You've all noticed Sawyer's new glasses. He's been wearing them in all the THREE YEARS LATER flashforwardbacks.

Sawyer meets Jack, Hurley and . . . Kate.

Run, Sawyer, Run!!!

He doesn't run, unfortunately.

End.

Previews. They find Sayid (awesome!) but the Dharma guys want to shoot him. Moral conundrum.

Also, anyone have any ideas who Horace and Amy's baby is?

Comments on "Lost: LeFleur":
1. Bird - 03/04/2009 10:14 pm CST

Good episode. I had been waiting all season for Sawyer to see Kate for the first time. Gag.

I'm glad that chick who used to play Michelle on 24 got a new gig on Lost.

2. Sherry Early - 03/04/2009 10:47 pm CST

The kids and I were speculating on who the baby might be, and someone suggested Miles. Then, we decided that there couldn't be two Mileses in the same place and time: one would have to be baby Mile and the other grown-up Mile. Uncontrollable laughter ensued.

I guess you would have had to have been there.

If Sawyer goes back to Kate, or tries to go back to Kate, I'll do worse than gag. This switching partners whenever the wind changes direction is getting o-l-d.

3. Shauna - 03/04/2009 11:51 pm CST

My crazy guess is that the baby is Jacob.

4. Bethany - 03/05/2009 6:35 am CST

I thought Charles, but that doesn't make sense.

Good episode... but I don't want Sawyer to go back to Kate.

5. GinH - 03/05/2009 6:48 am CST

I can't remember what dead Horace said to John when he was building something in the woods. Anyone remember what he said that episode or does it matter?
Maybe that's baby Daniel??

6. Bird - 03/05/2009 7:26 am CST

My crazy guess is that the baby is Jacob.

Locke mentioned Jacob when he went back in time to The Others whenever that was in the 40s or 50s. So that baby can't be Jacob, I don't think.

The Love Rhombus between Jack, Kate, Juliette, and Sawyer is the most annoying aspect of Lost. It's getting rather ridiculous. My vote is for Kate and Juliette to get whacked. :-)

7. Quaid - 03/05/2009 7:43 am CST

I was thinking that the baby might be Daniel too, except that his mother is Eloise . . . Also, if it's 1974 and we meet Daniel in 2004, doesn't he seem older than thirty years old?

He's too young to be Christian. Maybe Boone? We know the back story of just about everyone, right? Ben didn't take anyone with him at the purge and I don't remember anyone else introduced from Dharma that it could be.

I wonder what happened to cause babies to not be able to be born.

This episode all but confirms the origins of the island as a creation of Ancient Egypt. The cross around that guy's neck wasn't a Christian cross - it seemed very hieroglyphic to me. And the four-toed statue looked like the back of an Egyptian god. If we can identify which god it is, that might give us more insight into the island's original purpose. Alpert could pass for an Egyptian - that also explains the eyeliner. (Didn't Egyptians wear eye makeup?) The link with the temple, smokey and the hieroglyphs on the hatch countdown when everything went boom all are Egyptian references.

I like the irony of how Sawyer is now be the leader. Jack's leadership ended with "We have to go back!!!!" and now they're back with no real purpose. Unfortunately, Locke is not when they are, so I don't know how he'll get the message of what they need to do to them. So, Sawyer's calling the shots, and - as we all knew - he's doing great in this leadership role from the getgo.

On a macro-Lost note:
Remember in Seasons one and two (and even three/four) when LOST would be exhilarating simply because they would reveal crazy things or characters would end up unexpectedly dead? That LOST is gone. It's as if we're doing a connect-the-dots puzzle and we're just drawing in the lines to get the complete picture. The last huge reveal that I can remember is "Who is in the coffin?"

Wouldn't it be strange if Sayid was shot dead next week? I like his character and don't want him to go, but I kind of miss the rug being pulled out from under me. If the craziest surprise that happens this season is that Faraday's mom is Eloise, I'll be somewhat upset. Have they set expectations too high? Am I too high-maintenance as a LOST viewer? Why did it say "In Two Weeks"? What's happening next week?

8. Quaid - 03/05/2009 7:46 am CST

I guess Jin being alive was pretty cool, but that's something I kind of saw coming . . .

9. Quaid - 03/05/2009 8:00 am CST

GinH asked about what Horace said to Locke in the woods. I couldn't remember, so I cheated and went to Lostpedia.

Here's Horace's link (there are no spoilers on this page, only a recap):
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Horace

In the woods, Horace was building a cabin for "He and the missus" which actually seems to be Jacob's cabin. He mentions having been dead for 12 years. I guess that means that Locke can now access Jacob and appear to the returned Losties?

Something else that is interesting:
It reminded me of Horace's backstory. He found Ben's Dad/Mom off the side of the road when Ben was born. The lady with him that day was Ben's teacher who got the shotgun out of her desk when the hostiles attacked the camp. I think it insinuated a relationship between Horace and the teacher - what happened to them? Does this mean doom for Amy? Is 1977 too soon for Ben to be on the island?

10. TheCalvinator - 03/05/2009 8:02 am CST

Amy said that she wanted Juliet, not that she didn't want her.

11. Quaid - 03/05/2009 8:20 am CST

And since we're correcting things in the Liveblog (which can be very difficult), I think that Sawyer told Amy that they sailed from Tahiti - not Haiti. Ironically, Tahiti is also where the sub is going.

12. Bill - 03/05/2009 8:43 am CST

Sorry for the mistakes. While liveblogging sometimes I get confused.

Regarding the "dead for 12 years". That puts the Dharma Initiative massacre in 1992.

I'm assuming Sawyer, Juliet, et. al. know that's coming?

I think they had Horace with longer hair in this episode to make him seem younger than the 12 years dead Horace. But to me he looked older.

"Am I too high-maintenance as a LOST viewer?"

Yes :-)

They are filling in the story. I remember in the earlier seasons everyone's complaint was that we were getting more questions than answers. Now we're getting more answers than questions. I still think it's a great show.

I don't want Sayid to get killed just so you can get a big reveal/shock, in other words :-)

Awesome call on the Egyptian thing! I hadn't thought of that, but you're right, there are lots of hints in that direction.

13. Bill - 03/05/2009 8:45 am CST

I guess Jin being alive was pretty cool, but that's something I kind of saw coming . . .

This is kind of a strange comment. We've known Jin was alive for about 3 or 4 episodes. Did you just figure that out this ep?

14. Shrode - 03/05/2009 8:50 am CST

I'm pretty sure that was an ankh, not a cross. two different things.

But typical if this is the seventies and the dharma people are hippies.

As for the identity of the baby...HELLOOOOOO! It's French woman (Danielle's) daughter's boyfriend...what was his name? That's what I think.

And speaking of kids...whatever happened to the kids from flight 83 that were kidnapped by the Others in season 1? Are they still wandering around with Richard Alperts people?

15. Bill - 03/05/2009 8:54 am CST

"I'm pretty sure that was an ankh, not a cross. two different things."

You're correct. Again, apologies. I knew it wasn't a cross, even almost mentioned it looked like one of those Egyptian crosses, but couldn't remember the name of them in the heat of the moment.

I'm losing my liveblogging touch (such as it was).

Good call on the child being Carl.

16. jen - 03/05/2009 8:56 am CST

The cross that Amy took from Paul is an Egyptian Ankh. It's the symbol of life or eternal life.

17. GinH - 03/05/2009 9:12 am CST

But Carl was about 17 or so, right? So if it's '74 and plane crash happened in early 2000's then he wouldn't be old enough for it to be him. Right?
Geez. How are we supposed to keep track of all this what with all the different time periods? I give up trying to figure it out, I'm just along for the ride now.
It's the best tv ride of my life!
I LOVE this show.
Don't you even DARE talk about the death of Sayid, btw. That. Can. Not. Happen.
I really like Sayid :)

18. Shauna - 03/05/2009 9:31 am CST

I had forgotten that Locke mentioned Jacob to Richard in the 50s. Who the baby is might just be a red herring. I can't think of anyone we know who would be in the right age range since it doesn't seem likely that it's Miles or Daniel. Maybe it's Paulo. LOL.

Ben was born in the 60s according to Lostpedia, so Horace was with (married to?) Olivia before he was with Amy.

19. Shauna - 03/05/2009 9:36 am CST

Ben was born in the 60s according to Lostpedia, so Horace was with (married to?) Olivia before he was with Amy. I can't remember now when Ben went to the island, though. Was Horace still with Olivia then? It will be interesting if big Ben runs into kid Ben on the island.

20. Robin - 03/05/2009 10:27 am CST

Haven't we seen the "Lefluer" name before? I have a feeling it was on one of the bodies in the pit with Locke when he was shot by Ben. Does anyone remember?

21. Evan - 03/05/2009 10:53 am CST

As for the babies dying, I think the idea is that the babies don't develop properly when the island is jumping through time or somehow stuck in the 'wrong' time. When Locke 'fixes' things with the wheel, it not only stopped the nosebleeds, it fixes the gestation issue as well.

After the last several episodes, I am also getting a strong "Groundhog Day" vibe from Lost. I still think that Widmore and Ben are fighting for the island and using people as pawns, but I think the reason they are fighting is that one side wants to essentially keep it Groundhog Day forever (don't want change, don't want loved ones to die, don't want to die themselves, etc.) and the other side wants to permanently end the time traveling to end the repeated cycles of monotony (where nothing changes, they can't have children, nothing ultimately means anything, etc.).

I think the coming war will pit the two factions/philosophies against each other, although it is still hard to say which characters will be on which side, and many may yet switch philosophies depending on events to come. Faraday, for example, despite always saying what happened will happen, and that you can't change time, now in tears tells himself he won't warn Charlotte to stay away from the island because that eventually causes her to return and die.

I think the 815 survivors will end up split on the issue, thus Kate's statement to Jack on the plane that they may be on the same plane, but they aren't together.

22. Crossbow - 03/05/2009 11:43 am CST

Anybody else see a fight coming when little boy Ben Linus shows up on the island? Sawyer wants to kill him, Juliette stops, Faraday mumbles about it not being possible, etc. So Juliette takes Little Ben under her wing to try and influence him better, but she dies or gets to go back to her right place in time or whatever and Little Ben is crushed. I remember a few seasons back that someone was talking about why adult Ben had a crush on Juliette, and one of the others mentioned "well, she looks so much like her" Maybe that her was her, after all...

23. Bill - 03/05/2009 11:57 am CST

Crossbow - intriguing . . .

In 1977, Ben is probably on the island, right? Or maybe soon to arrive. Seems he was a little tyke of about 10 or so. Maybe 11 or 12.

Evan - great point on the coming war.

Which leads me to this: I don't know which side Ben is on (except his own), but it seems obvious that the island, in the form of Christian (and Richard too, I think) is against Widmore. Does any one else see that?

Evan - also, random question: Do you blog anywhere?

24. Michele - 03/05/2009 12:15 pm CST

Whoa, Evan and Crossbow! Those are some jedi theories.
Bill, you did a great job. We can barely breathe while it's on, little own type.
Juliet should always be in love; Her character was so sweet this ep. She doesn't make a good robot. I'd hate to be her, though, always getting Kate's rejects.
It seemed Dharma developed the technology of hair-straighteners in the 70s, because both she and Sawyer had very flat hair. (I think they did this to differintiate past/present, as well as the glasses.
I think it's somehow annoying how Sawyer is called so many names. Hurly-Hugo is acceptable, but James, Jim, Sawyer, it just sort of bugs me.
Do you guys really think Richard Alpbert is wearing eyeliner? We think his eyes are just that way. I've also read a rumor somewhere that he's got a contract for a new show--and this could change his role in LOST. Anyone else hear this?
Did you notice they usually have their babies on the "mainland"? That was interesting, that they go back and forth. What mainland, I wonder?
I wonder what the significance of giving Paul's body back was? Do they resurrect them to become Others?
We were all writhing the way Kate was saved dramatically for last to emerge from the van, trying to make it as intense as possible. I was happy though, that the sad, romantic LOST music didn't play, meaning possibly no love.

26. Bill - 03/05/2009 12:22 pm CST

Thanks Michele.

From what I've read, the actor who plays Richard just has eyes that look like they have eyeliner on. He said he always had to deal with that growing up.

With all the Egyptian talk in this thread, I'm wondering if the casting choice was on purpose (Egyptians wore eyeliner). And they purposefully had Sawyer point it out in the ep.

The Kate reveal was lame. My favorite part of the show was when Sawyer said he was totally over her and couldn't even remember what she looked like.

He better not leave Juliet for Kate. Plus, isn't Kate carrying Jack's child?

I was kind of hoping that when Kate was revealed a flaming arrow might come out of the sky and strike her down . . . would save the show from a lot of irritating nonsense going forward.

And I'm not hating on Kate. I say this only out of love and concern for those who are subjected to her.

27. Bill - 03/05/2009 12:23 pm CST

Also, where are Rose and Bernard?

Has Jin remained faithful to Sun? You could imagine that he might not, just because he's lost to her (she thinks (he thinks) that he's dead, she lives in another space-time continuum, etc). I wonder . . .

28. GinH - 03/05/2009 1:09 pm CST

You guys are really hating on Kate.
Can she help that she's in love with two great catches? Come on, cut her some slack.
She's no Benry.
That said, I hope they both dump her.

29. Robin - 03/05/2009 1:40 pm CST

The Egyptian link seems very likely. The ‘cross’ Horace was pissed about is an Egyptian hieroglyph called an Ankh, which means ‘life’. According to Egyptian mythology Horus (Horace??) and Seth fought for control of Egypt, the story includes an island. Horus and Seth are brothers or uncle and nephew in some stories. Horus’s son, born after Horus was brought back to life by Anubis, the god that first created embalming and had the ability to bring people back to from the dead, eventually gained control over Seth. I think the statue is either Anubis or Seth and is holding an Ankh in one hand. The pictures I’ve seen of these Egyptian gods have more than 3 toes though. Two relatives (Ben and Witmore) fighting over control of a territory (the island) with the power to bring back people from the dead...

30. Robin - 03/05/2009 2:12 pm CST

An additional Egyptian link is the biblical story of Jacob, father of Benjamin, and leader of the only Hebrew tribe to go to Egypt and later return.

31. Evan - 03/05/2009 2:15 pm CST

Bill, - Nope, no blog. Enjoy this one and several others though. I've thought about it, but I probably spend too much time on the internet already.

GinH, I am always a little puzzled by the degree of Kate hate as well. I think I understand it a little, given some aspects of the character, as well as the relatively wooden acting of E. Lilly. But personally, while her character is less interesting to me than most on the show, she doesn't bother/annoy me as she appears to really annoy others.

It genuinely interests me why there is such nearly universal dislike of her.

32. Brian - 03/05/2009 2:33 pm CST

Probably irrelevant, but it's interesting that 3 years have now passed for both the on-island and off-island groups.

I also gotta wonder what changed Juliet's mind about staying past the two weeks. I mean, Sawyer is a hunk and all that but 2 weeks is a short amount of time to work his magic.

33. Michele - 03/05/2009 3:11 pm CST

Bill--think about how funny what you said is, about casting an actor just because he looks like he's wearing eye-liner. How hard would it be to simply apply eye-liner to an actor? Silly.
Ha! The Kate flaming-arrow fantasy cracked me up.
Evan, I'll be honest: The reason I hate Kate is because she's super cute and annoying as well. I can take super-cute OR annoying, but the combo is overwhelming. Nothing in her character is flawed enough to make us love her or find her believable. She's had a bad past, but it's all just sort of happened to her, it's not really her fault.

34. Shrode - 03/05/2009 4:01 pm CST

That's right. The gas can just jumped in her hand, poured itself all over a house a man was sleeping in, and the match lit itself, while she drove off to let a man burn.

and the whole bank robbery thing? Not really her doing either. Really, the bank got robbed and she just accidentally became the mastermind.

;-) Just funnin' ya Michele.

As long as we seem to be voting, I have to say that I'm not down with all the Kate-Hate either. I don't have a problem with her.

Funny how charcters have evolved over the series though. I used to like Locke, now I don't. I used to hate Sawyer, now he's my hero. Jack used to be my hero, now he's the one "along for the ride". Time for you to step up and lead again dude.

35. Bethany - 03/05/2009 4:47 pm CST

I think its because he has really thick eyelashes, that's what I've heard. But, it works for him.

I don't like depressing Daniel.

Shrode, I know, I know, she did bad things. But I think the writers try to make her past part of her "charm". She did them for love and they somehow went arwry.

I don't like that they're waiting an extra week to show a new ep - I can't really figure out why except that they might be trying to align a May Sweeps finale schedule.

I don't know to what extent they'll flesh out the Egypt stuff this season much more. If the time jumping is finished, as Faraday mentioned, then it will be interesting to see how they get the O6, along with the other Losties back into normal time.

I wonder if Jacob's cabin is somehow a time portal that will allow the misplaced Losties to return back to their original time slots . . .

For the record, I don't get the Kate-Hate either. So - it's not universal. In fact, my guess it that Kate-Haters are the overly vocal minority.

And - Bill - I think that I'll own my high-maintenance viewership of the show instead of trying to overcome it. I'm not disliking the show, btw - I've enjoyed this season very much. But I'm waiting for an Alex, Ana Lucia, or something else crazy to happen.

The reuniting of Jin and Sun will be interesting - how will each other handle it? All Sun has wanted to do is see her husband. All her husband has wanted was to never see her again (for her sake). She'll be overjoyed and he'll be crazy conflicted.

On another note - is it wrong for me to look at the ABC press release of each upcoming show? Am I cheating?

The reason I ask is . . .
They give a little blurb about what will happen on the show (this would show up in any TV Guide). THEN, they list everyone who's guest starring. SO - I know everyone who will show up in the next ep which causes minor spoilage.

For example, I knew that Walt would be on "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" before that ep showed up. Having looked at the next episode's blurb, I know some of the actors on the show and some of the questions we've asked on this thread will be answered simply by knowing what characters will reappear. (I won't give anything away, I guess)

I will say this, the next episode's title is, "Namaste." (This could be interesting considering that's how the people in Dharma say "goodbye" in all of their videos . . .)

THANK YOU!

Meh on all the Lost meta, press releases, etc.

Thanks for giving that away. . .

Doing a little Google Image Searching, I don't think that the god could be Horus - he's got a beak and the statue from lost seemed to have some ears. I don't think it's Annubis, because his ears are long like a Pinscher. Set(h) seems that he could be a good fit. Ironically, Seth is the Egyptian god of Chaos.

Robin - the statue had four toes, not three. I couldn't find any ancient statues of the gods - only wall paintings, and they always show the body of the gods in profile - so you can't count the toes.

Judging from what I've read about the statues that Lindelof/Cuse have said, they didn't really care how many toes the statue had, just as long as it didn't have five. (They originally had scripted the statue to have six toes.)

We can agree, though, that it's Egyptian, old and an indicator that the Ancient Egyptians are behind this. Is it coincidence that the Island deposit dropoff space (where Ben and Locke ended up after turning the wheel) is in Tunisia? That's not too far from Egypt, right?

Also - Shrode - can you expand on the 70s hippy/Ankh thing?

I didn't know that the Ankh was a symbol of hippiness. I'm trying to decide how much of a correlation it is to everything.

42. Shrode - 03/06/2009 10:00 am CST

Quaid,
My point was that in the 60;s/7o's hippie era of symbols, an ankh was one of them. I remember seeing different symbols - the peace symbol, the ying/yang, and the ankh. (There are probably others...) Along with the other symbols mentioned, I saw ankhs around necks, on hippie VW vans, on shirts, on hippie artwork etc...

I'm not sure of the reason why. I always thought it was the hippie fascination with spiritual eastern religions that weren't christian.

Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas about the link between ankhs and hippies? (I wonder if the famous hippie band "Geronimo Jackson" used it as a symbol on album artwork? :ggeek: )

From Wikipedia

The ankh was popularized in modern times as "the cross of life" in the film The Egyptian, where Akhenaten's cult of Atenism is portrayed as a religion containing proto-Christian ideas. Since the 1960s it has been a popular symbol within various cultural movements: Nile (band), subcultures (Hippie, Goth), cinema (Logan's Run, The Hunger, Superfly), comic books (Sandman, Doctor Fate), musical groups (Kiss, Elvis Presley, The 69 Eyes, Iced Earth, Earth, Wind and Fire, Cage the Elephant), television shows (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Metalocalypse) and video games (Tomb Raider, Ultima, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Ankh).

The ankh also retains popularity among Neopagan religious and spiritual movements as a symbol for a variety of concepts relating to life, immortality and the occult, being commonly used in parallel with Energy Vampires.[6] In its relation with immortality and eternal life, the Ankh is the central symbol represented in the sacred seal of the Asetians, also known in the occult world as the Dark Mark.[7] This symbol is a blend of Ancient Egyptian iconography with highly theological connotations and is a distinctive hallmark of the secretive Order of Aset Ka. That symbol can be seen in the cover of the published literary work on vampirism and Ancient Egyptian spirituality Asetian Bible, as it is present in the image on the side of this article. [8]

Energy Vampires?

45. Quaid - 03/06/2009 5:26 pm CST

LOL - I've never heard of that. What does that even mean?

46. nav - 03/07/2009 1:06 am CST

could be wot everyone says....or mmmmmmatlantis anyone?

47. Quaid - 03/08/2009 9:21 am CDT

I don't really know the history of Atlantis:

-I thought it was underwater
-I thought it was Aztecan (not Egyptian)
-I thought it was supposed to be super-gold-richy-rich

The LOST island doesn't fit that. Correct my understanding if I'm wrong.

48. Andrew - 03/08/2009 12:58 pm CDT

I thought it was Aztecan (not Egyptian)

Plato talked about Atlantis in one of his dialogues (way before anybody knew about the Aztecs). I don't know where he got it from, but it could have possibly come from Egypt. The Greeks were well-traveled.

I thought it was supposed to be super-gold-richy-rich.

I don't know if the earliest legends had that (even though the Disney film did), but even if they did, it could be a kind of post-Atlantean thing on LOST.

I'm not endorsing the Atlantis idea, by the way.
