I'm sure others have noticed this, but it clicked for me tonight.
I know which Kwon is the "candidate".
***** SPOILER OF DUBIOUS VALUE BELOW THE FOLD *****
Obviously the candidate is Jin. Not Sun or their daughter (assuming that "candidate" is singular).
Exhibit 1: SmokeLocke seems pretty intent on keeping track of Jin, and seemed pretty distressed when he was missing. This is a minor data point. The biggie is . . .
Exhibit 2: Jin didn't die when the NotPenny'sBoat blew up. Remember how lots of people were going "Oh, come ON!" when Jin showed up alive? How could he? That boat was blown to bits!
But he's alive because the island won't let candidates die, at least until the island is done with said candidate. That's why Jin is alive.
He's a candidate.
(OK, ok, I'm sure others have come up with this theory - assuming it's not whacked. But I came up with it on my own.)

to strengthen bill's theory: if the lighthouse mirror has been watching the candidates for a long time (jack since childhood, etc.) and the "degree wheel" with the names on it is as old, then jin is the candidate because he is the only kwon that's been a kwon that long, right? the name on the cave wall seems to back this up, too, assuming the names are older than the plane crash, etc.

This is the first I've heard of it. Could the same argument not be made for Sun not dying after having been impregnated on the island? Even though she got away from the island, maybe she, too, should have died and did not.
And - Locke came to get her, too.
Just a thought . . .
