I'd like to live-blog Lost, but we just lost our power here at home, right when the show was starting.
Wait, the power's back on. We'll see. I don't know what I missed.
Spoilers Follow (provided the power stays on)
***************************************************************
Ok, it just came back on. I don't know what I missed, but the Oceanic 6 are on a plane, taxiing on a runway. The back of the plane just opened up (they were in a cargo hold). And they step out. Lots of people are waiting to meet them.
Hurley is embracing his mom and dad. Sun is embracing Mr. and Mrs. Paik. Kate's holding Aaron. Jack meets up with someone who looks too young to be his mom. Hurley, because he rocks, is bringing Sayid over to meet his family.
No one's saying Hi to Kate.
Flashback. Rose is asking why someone would drop that "thingamabob" from the helicopter.
Sun wonders if they should just call the chopper. It's a phone, right? Jack hands it to Daniel, who turns it on. Keamy can be heard over the phone, screaming at Frank and talking about "the Orchid".
Jack asks Kate if she wants to take a walk. With guns.
"You can't possibly be serious," Juliet scolds. Jack just had surgery, after all.
And, setting all Jack-fan hearts aflutter, Jack gives her a speech about getting everyone off the island, like he promised.
Meanwhile, Daniel is whispering to Charlotte about the "secondary protocol". He pulls up a sketch of the Orchid, and hisses "we have to get off this island. Now!"

Jack and Kate walking through the jungle. Jack looks pretty spry for a guy who just had surgery. But he's bleeding pretty badly, too.
Actually, he's not bleeding, he explains. He's "suppurating". Kate knows he's lying, and they start to flirt.
They hear a branch break, and there's Miles. And Sawyer! And Aaron. They walk right into Jack and Kate's guns. Sawyer tells them "we lost Claire". They looked for her for a day, but she was just gone. Sawyer hands Aaron to Kate. He seems genuinely sorrowful.
Sawyer was hoping Claire was heading back to the beach.
Jack assumes that Sayid is on the helicopter. Sawyer begs to differ. "If he's with those animals who just blew up New Otherton, you don't want to tussle with him".
Jack is sticking with his duty. He's going after the helicopter. He's determined, and more adoring glances from viewers toward their Matthew Fox wall posters would be appropriate here.
Jack sends Kate back to the beach, now that she's taking care of Aaron. Sawyer is going with Jack. "Hold up, you don't get to die alone."
Flash-forward. A press conference. A lady is explaining where the Oceanic 6 ended up, pointing to a map. She explains where the plane crashed and where they got washed up on the beach of a small island near Indonesia. Evidently, after 100 days, they were saved by a typhoon which washed a fishing raft and supplies onto their island. They used this to escape the island, and made their way to Sumba (?). Sounds plausible, kinda. She mentions that Kate gave birth to Aaron on the island.
Reporters begin to ask questions. The Oceanic 6 are lying about all that went down in the fake crash.
"Considering the ordeal you've all been through, you look pretty healthy for having been on an island for over 100 days".
What a great question.
Someone asks Hurley about his $150,000,000 he's going to get back, now that he's alive. He tells them he doesn't want the money. It's bad.
By the way, Hurley's hilarious. Love that guy.
Someone asks Sun if her husband was one of the people who died on the island. "The answer is no. He never made it off the plane."
"What was it like giving birth on the island?" Kate says it was scary.
A reporter asks a pesky question about Kate's criminal background. Evidently that's off limits for this press conference.
All the Oceanic 6 are lying like crazy!
Following the conference, someone stops Sayid. There's a woman outside who says she knows Sayid. It's Nadia, I'll bet!
Yes. There she is. Looking extremely Americanized. They embrace and almost kiss. Some great chemistry there.
Back to the Zodiac raft. Sayid is almost to the island. He hauls the boat ashore and says he's going to take everyone back to the boat, six at a time, because "the men on the chopper are going to kill us all". Juliet fills him in on what Jack and Kate are doing.

Back to John, Ben and Hugo. Ben tells Hurley that they are heading toward "The Orchid". It's like a greenhouse, and will enable them to move the island.
"Why didn't you just move it before those psychos with guns got here?" Heh. Ben explains that moving the island from the Orchid is a very iffy procedure.
Ben digs up a wooden box, containing fifteen year-old crackers, a mirror, rope, binocs, etc.
Ben uses the mirror to communicate. "With who?" asks John. "Who do you think," replies Ben.
I dunno. Jacob? I can't picture him on mirror-duty.
Someone on the ridge flashes back. So I guess they have someone tasks 24x7 to wait for Orchid mirror signals?
Back to the beach. Daniel is offering to ferry people back to the boat while Sayid goes off to find Jack and Kate.
Sayid hands him a compass. Daniel knows the heading. The boat can hold six people. Is that significant?
Kate walks out of the jungle and offers to go with Sayid. She hands Aaron to Sun. The boat pulls out. Sun is on it, with Jin, Aaron, Daniel, and a bunch of red-shirt Others.
Flash forward. Sun is dressed nicely and walking up a long stair.
In his office, Mr. Paik is dressing down some of his underlings. Something about using five differnt banks. Something bad appears to have happened.
Sun asks him what's wrong. "Nothing you'd understand".
Sun is right in his face. "You hated Jin!". Mr. Paik is taken aback at her insolence, and is demanding she respect him.
Sun is having none of it. She tells him that she just bought a controlling interest in his company with her settlement from Oceanic. So now he will respect her! She is ticked off, and he is melting away in the face of Sun's wrath.
She's going to have her baby, and then they will discuss the future of "our company".
Sun rocks.

By the way, watching TV is starting to feel like being assaulted. Why do we waste our time on this box? I was treated to talk of a "threesome" and some open-mouthed Lesbian kissing on Grey's Anatomy (which I don't watch, but it comes on right before Lost). Then some genuinely frightening horror-flick previews, and a Desperate Housewives preview that was pretty much PG-13.
Oh well, I'm still watching. *sigh*. Back to the live-blogging.
***************************************************************
Hurley pulls up to a mansion in a really old car. His dad is Cheech Marin, by the way. And I'm a little nervous because he's walked into the house and no one is answering his calls. He finds a small coconut (or something) on the entry way rug, and begins to hear the island-whispers. He grabs hold of a golden Jesus statue to use as a weapon.
Turns out it was a surprise birthday party. "Jesus is not a weapon" his Mom says.
Kate's at the party, holding Aaron. So's Sayid and Nadia. Cheech walks up. He wants to show Hurley his birthday present.
Hugo continues to want to avoid the money. The money is bad. I guess he gave it all to his parents. Cheech says he didn't buy this present with the money.
In the garage, Cheech shows him the car they started refurbishing back when Hurley was a kid. That's awesome.
Hurley gets in it and looks at the odometer. 48151-62 and the tripometer shows 342 - and Hurley freaks out.
I missed those numbers. Glad to have them back.
Back to the jungle. They are at the Orchid. Ben asks for the binoculars.
"What are we waiting for?"
Ben says they are waiting because Charles Widmore knows they will go to the Orchid.
Locke asks him why he said he didn't know why Widmore wanted the island. Ben admits he wasn't being "entirely truthful". Locke's starting to catch on to that.
Ben points out that the Orchid is already being watched. In the jungle cover at the back they can see some of Keamy's henchmen.

Back to the raft. Sun and Jin look happy. They are off the island. And there's the boat, in the distance. Desmond and some Boaties help them up off the raft and onto the deck.
Desmond asks where Sayid is. Daniel lets them know that Sayid headed after Jack. Daniel takes off in the raft to get another load of Losties.
Michael walks up, and says the engine is fixed. Desmond's happy to hear that but Sun and Jin look like they are gonna faint at the site of Michael.
Desmond tells the pilot to head for the island on a bearing of 305. He can't, though, because there's something broadcasting on the boat that's messing up some electrical thingamajig. We know it's messed up because there's static all over his flat-screen TV.
Back to Sawyer and Jack, trudging. "Cut yourself shaving?" Sawyer asks, after seeing Jack's bleeding. Heh. Jack tells him that he had his appendix out a few days ago. Sawyer's pretty impressed. "You kidding me?"
Jack and Sawyer are heading for the helicopter. Frank is handcuffed to the seat. Frank tells them to get some tools so he can be cut free. Sawyer doesn't like being a gofer but gets the toolbox anyway.
"The hit squad is going to grab Ben Linus?" he asks.
"Yes"
Frank says Keamy's men are also going to kill the people with Ben.
Sawyer is exasperated. "Hugo's with them!"
Jack can't believe it either. "Son of a ____"
Flash-forward to Christian Shephard's wake. Jack is doing the eulogy.
"Goodbye dad. I loved you. I miss you"
After the wake, a blond lady walks up to Jack as he's talking with Kate.
She's Australian.
"He [Christian] came [to Australia] to see his daughter," she tells Jack.
This is Claire's mom.
"Would you like to know the strangest thing about this Mr. Shephard? My daughter was on your plane too. You were in the air for six hours . . . and you never even knew she was your sister."
"Her name was Claire."
Jack is trying to control his emotions.
The woman sees Kate and Aaron. "Your son is beautiful." Wow. She walks out.
Jack stares at Kate. He can't believe what just happened.

Sun is pressing Michael for information. "So now you work for Ben?"
Michael takes umbrage at that. He explains that he's trying to make up for what he did.
But he gets called into the hold by Desmond. There's a bunch of C4 explosives rigged in there. Man! They can't catch a break.
Back to the jungle. Kate (who somehow is this great wilderness tracker - have you noticed?) figures out that the tracks they are following are not Jack's or Sayid's. And they "doubled back". Kate can tell if you double-back. She knew Naomi did too.
Richard comes out, holding his arms up. And it's the OTHERS! The versions you saw in season 1, all jungled up. They have the drop on Kate and Sayid.
Yes! I missed these guys. Not that I'm glad Sayid and Kate are in danger. But this is still cool.
At the Orchid. Ben is reeling out a long, complicated plan to John. All I caught was that John is supposed to walk in and do something when he comes upon a patch of Anthuriums? Um.
Anyway, Ben has a plan. "How many times do I have to tell you, John. I always have a plan". I think he might die.
Montage:
Sun is on the boat. Holding Aaron.
Jack and Sawyer are heading into the jungle to find Hurley.
The Others have Kate and Sayid held captive.
Ben walks up to the Orchid, holding his hands up. The armed goons come out, holding him at rifle point. Here's Keamy.
"My name is Benjamin Linus, I believe you're looking for me"
Keamy holds a gun to his head. Ben's deadpan look is priceless. It almost looks like the end of the line for Ben, but Keamy doesn't pull the trigger, he just whacks Ben unconscious.
Fini.
Previews for the Season Finale are shown. The Breathtaking Two Hour Season Finale. In two weeks.
Looks pretty good. This has been such a short season.

I liked the episode.
I missed the others too! Where have they been?
I have a feeling Ben may not have a plan? But, you never really know.. he's Ben.
Keamy and his men are hardcore, I don't like him!
GAH. What an ep.
Pretty interesting. I'm wondering how they're going to both wrap up loose ends from this season while setting next season up along with a decent cliffhanger.
Who do you think Sun was referring to when she mentioned that two people were responsible for Jin's death? Ben? Herself? Michael? Do you think he's really dead? augh.
Who do you think Sun was referring to when she mentioned that two people were responsible for Jin's death?
I'm guessing Widmore and Paik, who appear to be the evil corporate magnates behind all this stuff.
I really hope Jin isn't dead.
And I hope Sun doesn't get tainted by the dark-side, ala Sayid.
This season has been too short.
J.D.W - what are you talking about? What California S.C. case?
Oh, wait. You mean the gay marriage decision?
The Anchoress is writing on it. Check out her stuff.
Bill,
Really, really great job as always.
I love reading these, it gives me a good recap and reminder...But your commentary is absolutely the best part. You remember and remind me of stuff I'd forgotten, plus you've got great ideas.
It really, really helps and enhances my LOST watching (and understanding). Thanks dude.
You made some great comments this time:
and a bunch of red-shirt Others
YES! First of all, kudos on the Star Trek reference. Secondly, that's a good description at this point. I mean, all this talk about the oceanic 6 means that the rest of the survivors of Oceanic flight 815 will either die or choose to stay on the island. (How many were there originally? 48?) I can see people like Bernard and his wife, John Locke, even Sawyer choosing to stay on the island. But the faceless survivors? Not buying it, they want to return home, which means they will die.
You didn't miss anything much in the beginning, just a pilot in the front of the cargo plane kissing his lucky rabbit foot and expressing nervousness because of the cargo they were carrying, which turned out to be our beloved oceanic 6.
By the way, watching TV is starting to feel like being assaulted.
Dude, totally. I remember last week, we had ABC on, though muted, so that we would be ready when Lost started, and we got to witness a gay kiss between two men on Grey's Anatomy. (Maybe the California SC decision has relevance in this thread after all... :( I turned to Melissa and told her that was why we don't watch more TV, AND I commented that I was so glad that they did not have a gay character on Lost. Actually, I told her I was surprised that they didn't have at least one, with all the "diversity" of the characters. Then she commented she was surprised that one of the "surprises" at the end of the episodes hadn't yet been that someone was gay. I think that may be coming.... let's hope I'm wrong.
I have vowed never to start a new TV series again. When Lost, the Office, and The Unit are done. I'm done with live network TV forever. Read my lips: NO NEW SHOWS! If a show turns out to be good, I'll watch it on DVD after the fact.
I missed those numbers. Glad to have them back.
Me too! I was beginning to wonder if the writers had forgotten about that. Silly me? I'll be ticked if we get to the end of the series and there's no explanation of those. Likewise, I'll be mad if there's never a mention of "Aaron's special purpose".
Thanks Phil for the kind words.
Lost did have a gay character, actually. Tom was/is gay (I say is because, though he lies 'neath the sands with Sawyer's bullet in his heart, he lives on in flash-backs . . . maybe)
Tom may pull a Patchy and show up in a couple of weeks.
I'm wondering about the significance of the rabbit's foot. It shows up twice - once in the cockpit and someone else is carrying one - but I don't remember where. In the future?
Also.
How many times has Ben been knocked silly in the last few seasons? Seriously, he's had the stuffing beaten out of him about a dozen times.
With as many concussions as he's sustained, I'm amazed he can even walk, let alone continue devising his nefarious (clever, charming, but nefarious) plans.
hurley's dad handed him the keys on a rabbit's foot keychain. those wascally wabbits are definitely a recurring theme on this show.
How many times has Ben been knocked silly in the last few seasons?
IMO, Ben's an immortal. At the very least the island "won't let him die" (like Michael), until his mission is complete.
On the Lost Easter Eggs site they have a photo from Season One. The very first scene where Jack wakes up after the crash. Apparently Ben's black baton (the one he told Locke to hold on to for him at the end of the last ep) is next to Jack as he wakes up.
This was a great episode. I'm hoping that the finale will be as good as last season's finale. Man, last season's finale blew me away!
Could "move the island" mean something other than triggering an earthquake or changing its geographical location?
I hope Sun learns a lot about those Widmore-Paik connections.
Also , the key to the van that Hurley finds on the island(in season 3) is on a key chain with a white rabbits foot. In season 1 there is an epsiode named 'The White Rabbit' .
*Sawyer rocks my world*
Somebody post something about the California S.C. Case?
Sorry, I missed the show.
