"The Bible is a remarkable fountain: the more one draws and drinks of it, the more it stimulates thirst."

- Martin Luther
Mini-Moot

We had a great little mini-moot last night here in H-town. De, Blo, Thor, Thundergeek, Stroke, Andrew (De's son), and I hung out at Willie's noshing on fried jalapenos, steaks, boiled crawfish, et cetera. The two big topics of the typically passionate Thinklings conversations were The Consumer-Driven Church (as exemplified by the state of modern church worship) . . . and the TV show "Lost."
Hey, we can't always be solving the world's theological conundrums. ;-)

Other highlights:

- Our "surly" waiter who said the word "sir" so often we knew it was either a nervous tic or his preferred way of condescension.

- Blo and Stroke asking various restaurant personnel to change the TV to the NBA Western Conference Final game, only to be ignored time after time.

- Stroke's Valdez-level spill of ranch dressing

- Thundergeek eating, like, a bazillion boiled crawfish. (But not sucking the heads, the wimp.)

- Thor presenting De with a stack of books all on one Psalm (119) for De's Bible study lesson prep.

- Thor's Hawaiian shirt. He truly is a J-Mac/PJ fanboy.

- Blo's now immortal line: "That's a dollar fifty." I haven't laughed so hard in months.

- De adding to his "Jack doesn't rock" blasphemy the tidbit that "Rose and Barnard aren't cool." Someone stop him before he completely loses it.

We talked about a lot of stuff, actually, and a lot of people. If you're interested in knowing, yes, we probably mentioned you too. Blogosphere talk is a staple of our moots these days, including the folks in our precious little Thinklings community. We appreciate all of our readers, especially the regular commenters, and continue to find it fascinating that people seem to enjoy our site so much. But we love y'all.

We finished up the Moot at Fourbucks (sans Stroke and Andrew), where I drank coffee and the other guys drank fruity froo-froo concoctions. We talked more about the Church (building campaigns, small group philosophy, more on worship, more on discipleship, more on "marketing"), some stuff on Christian publishing, and we stayed so late they had to kick us out to close. (And on the front sidewalk some dudes from the Met hassled us about a slam on Max Lucado they thought they overheard. Apparently taking things out of context isn't just limited to the blogosphere. ;-)

It was a great night. I am so blessed to have such great and godly friends. There's nothing like hanging out with close guy friends talking about things that are important, joking about things that aren't, and just sharing the love of Jesus with each other.

De took some pics, so I expect we'll have some photographic highlights of the events sometime soon too.

Were those guys mad at us about the Max Lucado thing?

I was just referring to the fact that my blogging was once compared (unfavorably) to Max Lucado :-)

That whole little episode was weird. Maybe because I didn't realize they were ticked at us.

"I was just referring to the fact that my blogging was once compared (unfavorably) to Max Lucado"

I should correct this to say that one of my posts was compared unfavorably to Max Lucado's writings. Not "my blogging" in general, which is better compared to . . . um . . . other things.

So what did you say about me? ;-)

Glad you had the chance to get together and had a good time.

Jen, we only speak of you with tones of reverence and respect.
As far as you know.

De, those guys were weird. My impression was that the main dude talking thought we were slamming Max Lucado. At first, I thought maybe he was anti-Lucado and wanted to debunk us, but then I realized he likes Lucado and thought we were harshing on him.

So weird for two words out of a two hour conversation, none of which really had anything to do with Max Lucado, to become so misconstrued. Even the thing "about" Max Lucado had nothing to do with Max Lucado.

I also find it weird that whenever we have our coffee talks, some Christian dudes always feel it necessary to ask if we're Christians and where we go to church. Maybe that's typical here, but it never happens in TN. Here I always feel like I'm being sized up by people who want to know if I go to the "right" church.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

It all sounds fun......wish I could have been there just so that I could slam on "Lost" - the "Twin Peaks" of the new millenium (something that starts with great promise and goes ABSOLUTELY nowhere). I think that David Lynch in secretly ghost-writing the script.

I could have also debated "The New World" with Jared -(just watched it from Netflix last weekend) - I want those 2+ hours of my life back Jared!! Such a great story with very interesting characters that was completely sabotaged by Mallick's bizarre pacing.

I wanted to like it, since it was your #2 of 2005 and I usually agree with you, but geez, it was painful.

nhe, I don't know what to say. Except that you are wrong.

;-)

Sounds like fun! Wish I had been there.

(especially to see Darth Roberts in action)

See, "tones" could mean anything. You could be slamming me up one side and down the other in "tones" of reverence and respect.

I kid.

Sort of.

Hmmph.

Really, I'm kidding. I'm not worried. Much.

9. stroke - 06/02/2006 6:16 am CDT

correction: it was caesar dressing, not ranch.

11. Rob T. - 06/02/2006 9:24 am CDT

Wow, two topics I actually could have been able to participate in. Maybe Brian, Quaid and I can have a mini-moot of our own!

12. Quaid - 06/02/2006 4:16 pm CDT

Rob,

You know that Stroke, you and I mini-moot almost every day. We should put pictures up, too!

hmmmm . . .
