Big Time Rush is strangely compelling . . .

BTR is the 21st century version of The Monkeys. A manufactured show about a manufactured pop band and their wacky hijinks. Even the hair is the same.
Quaid - well, the music isn't exactly my cup of tea but the guys in BTR do have talent. And the show is stupid beyond belief which somehow . . . makes it good.
They also do a number of plots (I have teenagers so I've seen a few shows) that revolve around them nearly losing their recording contract and not being famous anymore. I think they kind of get that the shelf-life of most boy-bands is about two years. So that's kind of refreshing. In one episode they visit the happening Boy Band of a decade ago ("Boys in the Attic") and it's fairly hilarious as they see who they will one day be (BITA are literally living in one of their mom's attic).
Yeah, BTR's been on the DVR in my house. I started out hating it, then tolerating it, and now I can quote plotlines and I even watched it last night . . . alone . . .
[Bill mouths to the camera: "help. me."]
I listened to half of one song and it was auto-tuned to the max. Of course, it's possible that not every song is like that, though.
Nickelodeon is strange to me these days. I remember when all of their original programming were pretty much game shows. "Double Dare," "What Would You Do?," etc. were the mainstays. They moved into "The Adventures of Pete & Pete" and "Clarissa Explains it All" but the network didn't revolve around those shows. At least, it didn't seem to.
Now, they pick a star (e.g., iCarly, Miley, BTR), over-hype them to manipulate kids into buying their periphery and drop them after a couple of years. It's weird to me.
I hate auto-tuning . . . I don't think all their songs are that way (the ones I've heard indicate some level of vocal talent)
Yeah, teen stars don't last long. Miley Cyrus (who was Disney, btw) troubles me the most. She's a decent comedic actress. She always had limited vocal range (best suited for country music) but her voice now sounds like it's ruined. I haven't heard much about her recently, but the last bit of work she did after leaving her show on Disney was all in that predictable "I'm 18 now, time to skank out" phase, aided and abetted by her dad. Ugh.
Yeah. All the money in the world can't replace a daughter and that relationship.
All the money in the world can't replace a daughter and that relationship.
As a father of 3, that gets to me. Sad stuff indeed, when Miley was younger it seemed that Billy Ray's involvement was going to help her avoid the pitfalls of being a Disney starlet. I guess he wasn't involved enough.
Oh, and BTR is awful, both the singing and the show, as most of the stuff I've seen on Nick (although it's not nearly as bad as The Naked Brothers Band. Ugh.)
I'm thinking that admitting it may prove that you aren't man enough after all :-D
Naked Brothers was terrible (of course, weren't they all about ten years old?)
Wait, so admitting it makes me less of a man? Admitting what?
Did I admit something?
[Bill sticks a knife between his teeth and goes outside into the forest to kill a dangerous animal with his bare hands]

I didn't know what you were talking about, so I looked it up.
What do you find compelling? The show or the music? And why?
