"And do you now begin to see why Christianity has always said that the devil is a fallen angel? That is not a mere story for the children. It is a real recognition of the fact that evil is a parasite, not an original thing. The powers which enable evil to carry on are powers given it by goodness."

Correction. This would be reason #1.

I thought about that. But I didn't want to be so presumptuous as to think that I had never made anyone around here mad at me before. ;)

Actually, if this is only the first time I'm doing pretty good.

Oh wait...unless by #1 you mean by ranking, that this would be #1 on a top ten list.

:gyikes:

Exactly.
#2 would be correcting my pronunciation of Aquinas.

:-)

I don't know who I'm madder at - you or Ralph Bakshee.

We apologize, professor Tolkien . . .

5. The Ancient Mariner - 04/10/2008 8:51 pm CDT

err, "Bakshi" . . .

Plus, this isn't the Bakshi version, it's Rankin/Bass.

That little ditty has been in my mind since my childhood! We had the record album...

AM - yes, thanks for the correction. I forgot RB did the full LOTR (I seem to remember Backshi's went only through Helm's Deep).

Neither filmmaker is worthy to clean Peter Jackson's loo.

:-)

Blest - you have my deepest sympathies.

I can still summon up Gandalf's voice from the animated Hobbit, too. (blest taps forehead) It's all in there...

The Orcs in Jackson's films scared the daylights out of me (I always think if mere humans came up with those renditions, how much scarier are real demons?).

These Orcs look like James Carville.

This song gets stuck in my head FAR more frequently than it has any right to.

Especially when I'm working on a project that seems endlessly long.

In other news: Tolkien once actually responded to an early draft of the LotR cartoons (I'm not sure which one.) Based on his responses, it was probably a great mercy that he never lived to see either of the cartoon adaptations.

All I want to know is why didn't they take the dude with the whip? I guess I need to see the film to understand.
