"Membership in the family of God is neither inconsequential or something to be casually ignored. The church is God's agenda for the world. Jesus said, "I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." The church is indestructable and will exist for eternity. It will outlive this universe, and so will your role in it."

- Rick Warren
Redemption

In case you have no idea what this is about, here is the original version of the song that caused all the hooplah. It's amazing how songs can be redeemed.

Just like lives.

My favorite cover is Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon with The Roots and Taylor Hicks :-)

I don't think it's the original. But I do agree that it is a much-improved version.

And I also agree that Colbert, Fallon, the Roots, Taylor Hicks, Knicks dancers, a beekeeper and an abominable snowman (yeti?) also do a fine rendition.

I hadn't seen the Colbert one yet. That's hilarious!

Quaid - isn't a cover, by definition, not an original? Or are you saying she's not the first person to cover Friday?

I am partial to this one. Some people from our church did this version for the volunteer banquet. It's great!

Brandi,

That is HILARIOUS!!!

I saw another church's Sunday parody, but this one from Antioch kicked that one's behonkus. Fabulous!

ok - I'm a little lost - what did this girl do to redeem the song? I didn't notice the words changed in a particularly redemptive direction - maybe I missed it?......not that I didn't like it - its fun.

Nhe,

It's not redemptive in a Christian sense. I was just struck by how this girl took a really horribly produced song (auto tuned, over produced, etc) and turned it into a song I could like.

Sorry for the confusion. I saw it more as a metaphor - hence the post title.

ok, that clarifies it - I totally agree - now that I understand.

Bill - I think that I didn't recognize the text, "original version of the song" was hyperlinked. So -ignore my earlier comment. :)

Heh, Quaid :-)

I mean, I like this girl's rendition and all, but it only makes sense when contrasted to the original, horribly, horribly misguided effort.

Sunday comes AF-TER-WARDS . . .
