Holy Moly, dude. That's one of the more incredible things I've seen. Truly a testament to God's work in you by virtue of such a strong committment.
Congrats!
When I saw the headline, I thought you were talking about Paris Hilton. Blest, congrats anyway!
Wow..that's amazing!! Congrats!!! What was your secret? Did you go on a certain diet?? I need to drop about 50lbs.
Bird? Do you wanna tell him or shall I? ;-)
The South Beach Diet all the way, Mr Bones. It's all about healthy eating!
(and a LOT of exercise...)
Bones, Southbeach rocks. You need to join us on our group weight loss blog. ;-)
Today is Day 1 of my South Beach excursion.
I'm posting my weight (ugh), goal and progress (hey, it's day 1, so so far nothing) on my blog in the sidebar.
Heh. I love the "what's your secret?" question. :-)
Bones, I lost 50 pounds last year, and I didn't follow any particular diet. I did go mostly no sugar and good carbs (whole grains instead of white flour, and no potatoes), but it wasn't a strict Atkins or South Beach thing.
I just tried to eat more healthily and I worked out 4-5 times a week.
That tends to be the biggest key for men, I think -- exercise. I know it is for me. When I'm working out regularly, I can eat "bad food" in moderation and not do any serious damage to my weight.
Oh, and I wasn't trying to be sexist with my last comment. I just think there's something different in the metabolic process for men and women that allows men to cheat with diet a bit more when they're exercising.
Same reason, I think, men tend to drop more weight more quickly than women starting out on a program.
Bones is no stranger to weight loss. He dropped TONS back in the day.
I think you're definitely right about men dropping weight more quickly - but mainly I believe it's due to men's greater muscle mass. I read a good article once on Prevention about it. (I think it was called "How to lose weight like a guy") When it comes to eating "bad" foods, men are more likely to be able to cheat and not go into extreme emotional tailspins about it that lead to out-of-control eating. They are much better at shaking it off and getting back on track, I think.
But the exercise thing, I believe is every bit as crucial for women. There are so many "secrets of my success" for this journey - but a BIG one is that I've worked out - and I mean worked 6 days a week every week unless I was sick or injured. I do cardio every day. Arm weights and ab work three days and leg work the other three.
And no - didn't think you were being sexist. ;-)
Jared, I've also heard that dropping sugar has a more profound effect on men than women.
There was a student in our ministry who cut out sodas his Senior year and dropped 20 pounds without changing anything else about his lifestyle. No working out or anything.
He was a pretty small dude, too. 20 pounds for him is probably like 30 for a normal-sized person.
yeah Bird; I dropped a bunch back in the day....but THEN I got married, and it was all down hill. No longer a need to impress the ladies, I guess. ;-) But now I wanna be hot for my wife. Excercise is the hard thing for me; i've become pretty lazy, and not even sure where to start excercise-wise.
Aw garsh. Thanks dude!
Hey! Now I need a shrinking coffee drinking emoticon!! hee hee
