"Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; in that very day his plans perish. Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; who keeps truth forever, who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners."

- Psalm 146:3-7
Sorry to Disappoint

The impossibility of Vampires is "proven".

University of Central Florida physics professor Costas Efthimiou's work debunks pseudoscientific ideas, such as vampires and zombies, in an attempt to enhance public literacy. Not only does the public believe in such topics, but the percentages are at dangerously high level, Efthimiou told LiveScience.

Legend has it that vampires feed on human blood and once bitten a person turns into a vampire and starts feasting on the blood of others.

Efthimiou's debunking logic: On Jan 1, 1600, the human population was 536,870,911. If the first vampire came into existence that day and bit one person a month, there would have been two vampires by Feb. 1, 1600. A month later there would have been four, and so on. In just two-and-a-half years the original human population would all have become vampires with nobody left to feed on.

Now if we can just debunk the existence of zombies, bigfoot, chupacabra and of course our own mythical creature. :gblo:

Bigfoot is real. For real. I made a convincing argument for his existence at our last Entmoot. I believe Bill recorded it.

Yeah, sure ... That's what THEY want you to believe.

Like we'd trust a physics professor on something like this.

Bird - yes. And eventually the video footage of both your Bigfoot proof and Jared's Zombie proof will hit the inet. I need to get back on that.

Not to disparage Prof. Efthimiou's otherwise excellent work, but as anyone who has read Dracula can tell you, you have to die of blood loss from the vampire in order to become one youself. It's not enough to just get bitten. That kind of throws the calculation off.

Vlad was a real person

I once saw a vampire in WalMart. It wasn't Halloween not even close. And while other people avoided that isle I walked over and looked at him. Yep a vampire. Or troubled youth

Vlad was a real person

Of course he was real. You can read all about him in Dracula.

Phil, funny post.
I got a laugh out of this at dinner last night with friends. We all feel safer now.

I don't think Prof. Efthimiou takes into consideration the importance of the predation of Vampire Hunters in controlling the vampire population.

The conclusion I come to from Efthimiou's calculation is not that there are no vampires, but that we all already are vampires.

here in the philippines vampires are real but not as sci fi characters. Yep they still fed on bloods of human but they are creepy people. they don't get burn by sunlight and they look like normal people. The only thing is they worship Satan and is involved in different witch craft activities (which is actually common in some parts here).

They may not be the vampire you describe but definitely. locals call them "bampira" which is the filipino word for vampire...

And sometimes they get strands of your hair or skin or anything then tie it in their dolls and pin it with needles, and before u can feel the next pain, you're dead.
