All right, tell us:
Who do you want to win?
Who do you think will win, if different?

I'm pretty much with Quaid. Saints fans have become really, really annoying all of the sudden. I know, I know, they came together after Katrina, but there has got to be a statute of limitation on that thing. "Who dat sey de gonna beat dem saints?" Please stop.
So, I want the Colts to win, because I love Peyton Manning, and think they've been the most consistent team of the last decade (they have choked a few times in the playoffs, but they haven't missed the playoffs since 2002).
And, I think they'll win. Peyton is too smart and too good, and he'll be playing against a defense that isn't all that great.
I'm going for the Colts. I've always had a lot of respect for Peyton.
If the Saints win, that will be OK too. But I'm mainly just hoping for a good game.
Go Colts.
well, there are virtually NO Saints fans where i am in Winnipeg Canada (north of Fargo) and the Saints have been my team for more than a decade ... so it's Saints all the way baby.
The Saints!!!
I will admit that a lot of Saints fans are going gaga because of this, but it has been 43 years of waiting! Fans are excited at the actuality of being in the Super Bowl in addition to the prospect of winning. Everyone is saying, "Finally!!!"
Out here in Calif. I think it is largely a who cares game for a lot of people. I'd like to see the Saints win. I'm sorry their fans are so annoying. I think the Colts will win. I'm for the underdog here. I think it is great that they are finally in the Super Bowl. With the number of games this year that have been won in overtime I am really hoping that this game is close enough that it will go into overtime. That would be awesome!
First and foremost, I want a good game. I'd rather have a close and interesting game well into the 4th quarter regardless of who wins, than a blowout for either team.
I will be happy for whichever team wins as I like the Colts and what their franchise seems to be about and as a former D-III football player I love to see Pierre Garcon have success, but I'd feel good for the city of New Orleans to finally have a winner, too. Bottom line I think I'll be rooting for the Colts as long as it stays close. If they jump up big I'll be pulling for N.O. to make a game of it.
I want Colts to win, but I don't really care. My wife is from Louisiana, so she's rooting for Saints. This is our first "divided" Super Bowl ever. :-)
I won't be disappointed necessarily if Saints win. Just like the gridiron general that is Peyton Manning.
I think the Colts will win, but I think its' gonna be a close game.
I want the Cleveland Browns to win.
But I think the Colts will win.
If Freeney is unable to be effective, I definitely see this as a closer matchup than it otherwise might have been. I think Peyton Manning vs. the Saints #25 or #26 ranked pass (or is it overall?) defense is a big mismatch. It would seem the Saints' only hope is to win the turnover battle and win a shootout. Although at times a much-maligned D will rise to the occasion after being singled out as the weak link . . .
Karl is right - Freeney being out (or at least limited) is big news.
I also think Sean Payton will out-coach Jim Caldwell - and that will be the difference.
There will be a scheme to create a turnover or a special teams touchdown for the Saints that will end up being the margin in the game.
I want the Saints to win because I like the story, and because as a Falcon fan I root for the NFC South........but I'm a big Peyton Manning fan and would not mind seeing him win if he can parlay it into another Saturday Night Live host appearance - the guy is hilarious and is a great ambassador for the game.
I can't help but sometimes want to pull for the Saints.. just because, I mean, come on, it's the Saints. And they're in the Superbowl. You gotta have a little love.
Other than that, I like the Colts, and I like Manning.
Other than that, I have never really been into Pro football; I've been more of a college broseph.
The other night in a meeting I asked the former pro football player that I know who was playing and who to cheer for. He told me and said I should cheer for the team that he played for. They aren’t playing. So go Steelers! BTW those guys have very large hands.
i don't understand how anyone except a colts fan could not want to see a team (and that team's fans) get a win when that team has never before been to an nfc championship game, let alone a superbowl, let alone won the dad-blamed thing. i love peyton manning but god bless the saints (and their poor fans).
I know that the Saints will win eventually.
I don't know or really care about the Super Bowl, though. ; - )
Question:
What are your churches doing during the super bowl, if anything?
I ordinarily root for the underdog, which in this case would be the Saints. But for what will remain unnamed personal reasons, I can't root for the Saints, so I will be cheering for the Colts. I also think the Colts will win anyway. (but I am often wrong about those things...good thing I don't gamble)
Joel and I are rooting for the Saints Cuz the Cowboys beat the Saints this season, and that way if the Saints win we can say the Cowboys are still the best because they beat the Superbowl Champions. ;-)
Hey we take what we can get...
I have nothing against the Colts, and I really like Manning, but I'm cheering for the Saints.
The Colts are the better team, but I just get a feeling that the old voodoo of New Orleans will prevail.
Am I allowed to post a somewhat positive comment about voodoo here? ;^D
Shrode - our church has a Sunday evening service geared towards a younger subset of the community (20s & 30s). The service has been cancelled and instead, all of the small groups are doing something for the game individually and the church has rented out a huge restaurant (or maybe we're just all meeting there and the public is allowed in?) for anyone not involved with a small group.
We're taking the tack that this is a great opportunity to further build relationships with people in our small groups.
Jared: Loved the YouTube link.
We're having a Super Bowl Party at the church building (where the offices are) - with a section where the game will be projected, and a section for people who don't want to watch, AWAY from the TV with board games and such :).
True dat, Molly
We're having the College and Young Singles over to a house (friend of Stroke's with a BIG screen tv and theater room) to watch the game.
I have kind of a dilemma. The non-Christian guys I play racquetball with invited me to a sports bar to watch the game......and my mens Bible Study is meeting at a different sports bar to watch....and I want to watch the game w/ my 15 year old son at home......I'm thinking I'm going to try to do all 3.....somehow.
All you hates can feel bad now, for NOT cheering for the best feel-good Cinderella story of the decade.
WHO DAT!!
I rooted for the Colts, but there's no hate here for the Saints. I'm happy for them - they played great and deserved to win.
I loved the scene at the end where a misty-eyed Drew Brees was holding his toddler.
i was in a room full of hootin' and hollerin' people as the saints turned this thing around and made it into a game and then went on to prevail. god bless 'em!
this was only their 5th postseason win in 42 years. 3 of those 5 wins came this season. gotta feel good for those fans who have kept their hopes up all these years. i think this was a game for the ages.
and the colts' rookie coach, jim caldwell, showed a lot of character in what he had to say after the game. he gave buckets of credit to the saints, praised his own team's performance throughout the past season, and said he was looking forward to having another crack at the vince lombardi trophy in 2010.
Yes, both teams have lots of class.
It was a good game - exciting to the end, pretty much (well, after Porter's pick-six, it got a little less exciting :-)
I'm not sure that one can refer to anything about football players as a Cinderella story.
Seriously ... princess-to-be with tiny feet and slippers? ; - )
yes, well-done nhe.
Did anyone besides me notice how tight Peyton looked before and during the game? I chalked it up to just game-face, but even before the game he looked something between determined and . . . well, just "tight".
The Saints played looser and more confident. And the Colts defense had very few answers and got owned most of the night. The second quarter was pretty much the Saints O on the field the whole time.
I need to retake the Spiritual Gifts test, they may have changed. :)
I thought Manning played pretty well - Porter just read that route perfectly. If Manning goes down on that drive and ties it and it goes to overtime, they would have called it the greatest performance ever in the Super Bowl by 2 QBs.
The criticism Manning is getting this morning is a tad harsh I think (not by you Bill, you're right, just in general).
I got my wish - it was close well into the 4th qauarter. Peyton Manning with the ball in his hands relatively late in the 4th, down by just one TD? That is plenty close.
I think this game will help people realize just how good Drew Brees is. He out-Manninged Peyton Manning. But I also agree with nhe that Manning played pretty well overall. Super Bowl winning QB's have had games that were no better than his last night.
And the blame goes around among several Colts. Pierre Garcon, a favorite of mine because he played D-III football as I did, had a couple of big drops to go along with his TD and other catches. His drop that killed a late 2nd quarter drive and enabled the Saints to get the ball back and kick a FG was a big swing in the game. Reggie Wayne didn't have his best game and dropped (aligator arms) a potential late TD pass that would have enabled the Colts to try an onside kick. It wasn't all on Manning. But still he didn't have his absolute best game, when what the Colts needed to win was his absolute best game.
I was surprised by how well the Saints D played, especially in the red zone. Their D coordinator Williams deserves a ton of credit. I'm excited that his son, an outstanding linebacker prospect, will be enrolling at Virginia Tech as a freshman this year - looking forward to seeing him as a Hokie in seasons to come. Coaches' sons make for good, smart football players.
So who won the Super Bowl Commercial War?
My quick observations:
- Doritos won the night - going 4 deep with "Anti-bark collar", "Tim", "Letterman/Leno/0prah", and "Don't Touch my Momma"
- The E-Trade Babies have become too glib for their own good - though "milk-aholic" is a hilarious line
- Bud Light disappointed over all - the "Bud Light House" seemed like a high budget misfire, but they closed strong with "Wive's Book Club" - an instant classic
- I miss Pepsi - Coke lived up to their usual underwhelming standard
Top 5 of the Night:
1A. "Anti-bark Collar" (Doritos) - I'd like to split a bag of Spicy Chili Doritos with the guy that came up with this one - best LOL moment of the night, and strong upon repeat viewing
1B. "Wive's Book Club" - (Bud Light) - maybe the best closing segment ever for a Bud Light ad - "So you like 'Little Women'"???.....answer "I'm not picky" - LOVED IT!
3. "Tim" (Doritos) - on the merits of the poison Dorito dart alone
4. "Clydesdale/Long Horn Buddies" (Budweiser) - made me smile, and I'm not even from Texas
5. "H-O-R-S-E" (McDonalds) - Larry Bird is still the man
I loved "Don't touch my mamma" and "Wives Book Club". I agree, Dorito's owned it last night.
Side note: Why do beer advertisers (and others, such as beer-related snack advertisers), which primarily cater to men, always portray men as shallow, hedonistic idiots? Answer: that sells to men, somehow.
Lamest commercial? The Miller High Life "We're donating our commercial to these four unknown business owners" commercial.
Much ado about nothing: the Tim Tebow/Focus on the Family commercial. Thought it was great, didn't see what all the fuss was about.
I liked the Simpson's coke commercial, but mainly because it was the simpsons.
I liked the Miller (I think) commercial where the scientists, including Marvin Candle, thought they were all going to die and so started partying. It was funny, though only if you don't think about it too much.
Commercials I could TOTALLY have done without - the two (I forget the products) that had everyone in underwear.
Commercial that could come true: the Green Police commercial.
Good Stuff Bill -
I'd give lamest of the night to The Gap for "the guys running through a meadow in their skibbies" (as you pointed out). There was no hook. It was almost as sophomoric as the (eye-roll please) Go-Daddy.Com ads. At least the similarly themed Career Builder ad had a point.
The asteroid/world is about to end commercial was Bud Light - that's when Bud Light began to find it's stride last night.
Amen about the Green Police......yikes!, I'm putting my coke can from lunch in the recycle bin as we speak......
Please excuse my rude comment earlier. I was possibly intoxicated with Saintsmania.
My thoughts on the commercials:
Google pwns, as always. Simple, but beautiful. The people I was watching the game with literally started cheering when the last two or three searches got typed in.
And I also liked the Audi commercial.

I want the Colts to win - there are a lot of Saints fans around here (Dallas) who are annnnnooooooyyyyyiiiiiinnnnnggggg. Having said this, I really don't care too much either way.
Unless they turn the ball over five times, I think the Colts will win. (I don't think it will be that close, actually)
