"Membership in the family of God is neither inconsequential or something to be casually ignored. The church is God's agenda for the world. Jesus said, "I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." The church is indestructable and will exist for eternity. It will outlive this universe, and so will your role in it."

We remember, with deep gratitude.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.
Thanks and praise, for our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.
Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.
While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.

On Memorial Day I often reflect on those who died, and those who didn't. If either of my grandfathers (both of whom served) had died, I wouldn't exist.
How many people don't exist today because of the young lives extinguished at Normandy or Bataan?
But for the grace of God, I wouldn't be alive.
It amazes me that these men who died, did not just give up their own lives, but the lives of potential progeny.
I am glad that God is sovereign, or such thoughts would fill me with horror.
Just the same, I am gratefully in awe of those who died. I wish I could thank them. And for many of them I can't even thank their children.
