Brandi and I spent four days in a hotel room last week. Since we don't have cable TV at home, we usually take those hotel opportunities to get our boob tube on with stuff on Animal Planet, Court TV, etc.
This time around we didn't watch much, but we did watch about five episodes of the reality TV show, Dog The Bounty Hunter.
Dog's a big, bad Boba Fett who runs a family bounty hunting business in Hawaii. Dog doesn't like crime and whenever he's about to take down a drug dealer he says stuff like, "I hate this guy already."
But the reality of Dog is this: he's got a heart of grace. In just about every case we watched, Dog would eventually develop a heart of compassion for the criminals and talk to them about how to turn their lives around.
I saw in Dog a man who has a real compassion for humanity. In that way, Dog reminds me of Jesus.

I can't remember the name of the church that Dog goes to, but he is pretty involved in it. I read an interview with him once in a Christian magazine.
Of course, I don't approve of what he said, but we wouldn't have heard the tape if his son hadn't broke the law by recording it and releasing it publicly. I'm sure we've all said something that would sound pretty bad if it got out to the media. It's sad now that everyone thinks that Dog is a racist, all of a sudden he has no civil liberties anymore. Private conversation? Who cares! Taped without him knowing? Who cares!
The bible says that the heart is wicked and deceitful above all things. Dog had his heart exposed for the whole world to hear. Glad that hasn't happened to me. It's a shame that no one seems to care about the original crime committed by his son.
"Saved, not perfect," to pull out the dusty cliche. Sanctification is an ongoing process and Christians are not immune from sin, even the stupid ones.
"Private conversation? Who cares! Taped without him knowing? Who cares!"
The Bible also teaches that God is sovereign, and that he will bring what is hidden to light.
But yeah. If we want all our heroes to live up to the standards of God's perfection (so that we can worship them), we can only live through lies and deception. And really, that's kinda the way this present world tends to work.
There is obviously some tension in this family over this relationship. I know Dog is not perfect and I completely understand that we are all idiots at times. ;O) I literally had just read that article about him and then came to this site and was reading, "Dog reminds me of Jesus" -- It was just kind of funny. Not funny funny...more in the ironic funny sense. I'm not someone to kick a dog while he's down. I sure hope he can reconcile the relationship with his son.
I think that Mark Driscoll posted about Dog on his blog relaying some of the same things about Dog that you did.
It is sad that the whole incident with his son occurred. Ideally, I hope/imagine that Dog is offering the same grace to his son (and hopefully vice versa) that he has done to all of the criminals he helped to apprehend.
First, I am NOT defending the use of the so-called "N word" epithet. However, Dog was explicit that he was using to word to refer to her "character" and said a couple times that "it's not because she's black." He was using the term as we might use, say, "white trash." Of course, he obviously picked quite possibly THE worse pejorative to use to comment on what he perceives as low character. I can hear the libs now, "What? WHAT? How DARE he speak like a multi-platinum selling rapper! Better call "Rev." Al Sharpton!" Perhaps if Dog were rapping for entertainment he could get away with the same racial slurs? Ha. Not likely. Again, I'm not defending the epithet, but I am sick of feeling like we live in a social engineering experiment run by the University of Delaware.
Also, while the conversation was private, recording it was not illegal under Hawaiian law, according to Dog's attorney in a Fox News interview with Hannity & Colmes.
"Again, I'm not defending the epithet, but I am sick of feeling like we live in a social engineering experiment run by the University of Delaware. "
Just curious, why the University of Delaware???
Why the University of Delaware?

Basically, they were forcing all their dorm residents to take classes in tolerance which taught, among other things, that ALL white people are racists simply because they are white.
Believe it or not, I went to Sunday School with Dog's wife, Beth (not her real name) from grade school to high school.
Hasn't much changed.
...except maybe for the fact that his show just was pulled because he was taped by his son using the n-word about 5 times in 45 seconds when referring to his son's black girlfriend (who apparently Dog disapproved).
