"Why do people choose the substitute over God himself? Probably the most important reason is that it obviates accountability to God. We can meet idols on our own terms because they are our own creations. They are safe, predictable, and controllable; they are, in Jeremiah's colorful language, the 'scarecrows in a cornfield' (10:5). They are portable and completely under the user's control. They offer nothing like the threat of a God who thunders from Sinai and whose providence in this world so often appears to us to be incomprehensible and dangerous . . . [People] need face only themselves. That is the appeal of idolatry."

Man, it had to have been vote number two from the dirt on the tire that pushed it over the top, right?

And hey, it's OK that we aren't 7. The 10,000 maniacs and the Thompson Twins didn't have the right number either.

Besides if the millennium is a symbolic number, then 7 is too, right? We have the number that means perfection. Nice.

Oh, and if Rod is the Hub of Thinklings wheel, and I'm the dirt on the tire, what's Bill? The tread? Bird would have to be the nice-looking sidewalls, and I guess Blo would be the imaginary car we're not really hooked up to.

Shrode,

Yes, 7 is the perfect number of completion.

And you are the tread on the tire - you keep us grounded and stable.

I'm the white-wall. Pretty much useless except for coming up with really, really strained metaphors.

Dig it.

Who on the island went back in time and reset the Thinkling's webpage?

;)

Rod's the hub.

Phil's the tread on the tire.

Bill's the steel inside the tire.

Blo's the air inside the tire.

I'm the 24-inch rims.

By the way, the Last Samurai theme is a refreshing change.

Bird, that's nice. I knew you could do a good job at that. Accurate too, especially given that air is invisible.

I like Bill being the steel, weren't for him, none of this would hold together. And I like you being the 24-inch rims, the flash and style, bay-BEE.

Is now when we sing, Jesus, Take the Wheel?

Quaid,

LOL!!!
