"And do you now begin to see why Christianity has always said that the devil is a fallen angel? That is not a mere story for the children. It is a real recognition of the fact that evil is a parasite, not an original thing. The powers which enable evil to carry on are powers given it by goodness."

The Red River Shootout

I just can't shake the feeling that things will go very badly for the Longhorns this afternoon.

28-21

28-21 is better than I expected. Texas actually played their best game of the year. But the offensive line is just too young and inexperienced to let the offense get much consistency going.

Way closer than it should have been.

"Way closer than it should have been."

Yeah - it should have gone the other way.

Two turnovers was the difference. If TX scores instead of fumbling on the four yard-line, momentum is very much in their favor and OU is playing catch-up, not the other way around.

Still, turnovers are a part of the game. I won't what-if it to death. TX is finding out their identity. (Don't get me started on how the six months leading up to the first game are to serve that very purpose.)

If TX plays against their other opponents the way they played against OU, they will win out and (esp. if Mizzou wins this weekend) will have a shot at finding their way into the Big XII Championship.

I agree that, given the way that UT played in comparison to their earlier games, they very well could have won this game. But as you say, turnovers are part of the game, and OU got to play at the end with a lead (versus a sputtering UT offense), so there was no reason for OU to really take any risks to put points on the board.

Also, I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but I don't see any chance for UT making the Big 12 championship game.

OU would have to lose another two games (since they hold the tiebreaker against UT) and UT would have to win out. That's even leaving aside A&M, which has a rough stretch ahead, but if they lose two of their games in this next month, but still beat us (which is entirely possible), then they're in ahead of us.

Don't let anyone know I said this, but I'd almost be willing to let a&m beat us if it would ensure another year of Coach Fran at the helm . . .

I've thought that myself. That was the upside I saw to last year's loss. I think he would've been gone then if not for that victory.

With the insider email scandal, it'll take at least a victory over UT to keep him around for another year. The longer he stays, the harder it will be for their program to recover, so I'm going to be patient.
