"And do you now begin to see why Christianity has always said that the devil is a fallen angel? That is not a mere story for the children. It is a real recognition of the fact that evil is a parasite, not an original thing. The powers which enable evil to carry on are powers given it by goodness."

That's the (leaked) word on the Mitchell report, to be released later today.

I have a hard time understanding why anyone would be surprised about Clemens. How could you look at his career trajectory, the too-good-to-be-true late career numbers, and pictures of the young Clemens vs. the older, beefy Clemens with the bigger head, and think otherwise? The similarities to Bonds have been there all along.

All that's true enough. I think a lot of it has to do with (1) he's a pitcher (2) his body type- he never looks "in shape," i.e. trim, even though he's remarkably well-conditioned (3) his arms don't make him look like a weightlifter, unlike Bonds/McGwire/Sosa.

I don't hold prejudice when it comes to cheating. Although Clemens is the highlight of arguably the most consistent great college baseball program at (where else?) The University of Texas at Austin, I can't look past this without applying the same opinion as I have with Bonds.

Clemens is a cheater. He knowingly cheated. That's wrong.

If any of his baseballs made it to the hall of fame, they, too, should be branded with the same asterisk that Bonds got.

And now my Astros just got another player on the list - Tejada. I wonder if this report had come out three days ago if the same trade would have been made . . .

I can't believe the Astros could be surprised by Tejada being on this list. There have all sorts of stories and pretty solid evidence against Tejada for the last few years already.

Rafael Palmeiro claimed that Tejada gave him the steroids shot that busted him, claiming that he thought it was only 'vitamin B-12'. Furthermore, Canseco named Tejada as a user of steroids, and Jason Grimsley named him after his house was raided in a steroid bust a year ago.

No way the Astros could have ignored all that. They obviously knew Tejada was a likely a [former?] steroid user, and didn't care.

P.S. My team, the Twins, signed your old shortstop Adam Everett today who was let go to make room for Tejada. Don't know how I feel about it since he looks like a great defensive player with a weak bat, when the Twins desperately need more offense. What did you think of him as an Astro?

I skimmed through the report yesterday. I was most surprised at the number of pitchers that were named. And I was as surprised at the names that didn't appear as the ones that did.

Jen-

What names were you expecting? Just curious.
