Here's an amusing list of Top 10 Movie Plot Holes You Probably Never Noticed.
For all you Trek enthusiasts, check out #6:
6. Star Trek II & Star Trek III - At the end of STII, the Genesis device creates a planet out of the Mutara nebula and the USS Reliant, right? And that’s fine as far as it goes, because scientists do in fact think that planets form out of nebulae. There’s just one tiny little question, though: Where did the sun for the planet to orbit come from? It sure wasn’t there before the device detonated, and if the device could create a star from a nebula, you’d think Carol Marcus would’ve mentioned it.
The article is an amusing read. For you Star Wars fanboys out there, the writer mentions your flicks a couple of times. For example:
1. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back – Once Luke starts to figure out that the silly-acting, funny-looking little creature he’s with is in fact Yoda, Yoda’s mood changes. He criticizes Luke (legitimately, it must be said) and argues that Luke shouldn’t be trained to be a Jedi. Obi-Wan has to argue with him to get him to change his mind. Really, though, what choice does Yoda have? He either trains Luke or… what? The Empire wins? Good plan, Jedi Master.
I think the real hole in Star Wars is the fact that the Empire didn't want to spend any cash on training their Storm Troopers to shoot properly. Those guys couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

Finally, another Star Trek post.....
Being a big Trek fan, I guess I had always assumed as you initially did - that the idea was that the Genesis planet was Ceti Alpha 5, just terraformed and made habitable, which would have had an existing sun. But thinking more about that movie and the scenes at the end, the explanation that is was instead created out of the nebula (plus the crippled USS Reliant piloted by Khan) is correct.
I'll grant that does raise the issue of what sun was out there, but I don't think this is really that much of a plot hole given all the sci-fi "liberties" taken in Trek in general.
And it doesn't change the fact that Wrath of Khan is a great movie, while Search for Spock is a bad one.
Another plot hole I think everyone missed.
Bourne Identity. (First one)
Jason Bourne puts his top secret red spy bag in a train station locker. It has all his passports, cash in different currencies etc...
Upon exiting the train station RIGHT AFTER he put his spy case away he is chased by bad guys in an exciting and elaborate car chase scene and finally he and the girl make it out of town...
Where they go directly to a farm house in the country, where Bourne has to take out an assassin who finds them there.
And guess what Bourne has?
His red bag with the money. You know the one he locked in the city train station the day before and never went back to retrieve.
I suppose some would call it a continuity error.
That one mistake totally ruined the whole movie for my wife. And the whole trilogy even...
Oh and another error.... In the beginning, the fisherman cut Bourne's clothes off of him.
And then later you see him put on his sweater, with bullet holes in the shoulder. You know, the one the fisherman had cut off in the beginning of the movie.
Aaaaargh.

Heh. Yeh. Could only hit a planet.
