I think the 'only once' thin only refers to the spaces it actually lands on, not the spaces it skips over to get there.

I must be going insane. The first few times I watched it, I was certain it was landing on squares multiple times. I'm watching it now and I don't know why or how I came to that conclusion.
AHA! I think Ken's point is a good one, and it discredits this entire premise!!! Boom!

I don't understand the "exactly once" thing. even in the animation the knight is hitting squares he's already hit. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding.
