"Why do people choose the substitute over God himself? Probably the most important reason is that it obviates accountability to God. We can meet idols on our own terms because they are our own creations. They are safe, predictable, and controllable; they are, in Jeremiah's colorful language, the 'scarecrows in a cornfield' (10:5). They are portable and completely under the user's control. They offer nothing like the threat of a God who thunders from Sinai and whose providence in this world so often appears to us to be incomprehensible and dangerous . . . [People] need face only themselves. That is the appeal of idolatry."

Jared and Andrew are waxing eloquent about novels they've read. Since I've read none of these, I've decided to concentrate on drinking Blo under the table. I'm winning, as attested to by the row of empty non-alcoholic brewskis on my side of the table.
It's three O'Clock, and we're still hitting on most cylinders. Not too shabby.
Wait, just looked over at Blo and Stroke, and they are starting to nod off.
C'mon guys, Moot's on!

False. I was not nodding off at all. I even saw you peep me as you were blogging and I suspected you were making up junk... turns out I was right. What is true is this: after you posted this garbage, you got just about horizontal in your chair. Who needs to wake up now, sleepy?
