...from guys in jackets and ties thinking, "How in the world am I supposed to talk to this long-haired musician hippie freak for two whole minutes without embarrassing myself? Man, am I having to reach for questions or what? I'm going to throttle the guy that made me do this. How in the world is this guy waxing pseudo-intelligently about something other than music?"

What's wrong with what Lennon said? Now, the guy with Arsenio was pathetic. It reminds me of a point a former president of my alma mater said about the student body at the time. It was something close to students in his day arguing about the role of faith in world conflict or their personal lives vs. students of my day arguing over permission to wear t-shirts.
Nothing. It just struck me as a funny parallel.
The idea of Howard Cosell, a sports guy, and his producer probably said, "go interview John Lennon".
I think Howard did quite well actually. Now poor Arsenio was struggling, he even admitted it.
What's weird, is that it was Cosell that announced Lennon's assasination to the world in 1980 in a voiceover on monday night football. You can see that on youtube as well. It's eery and sad.
The second interview is Arsenio Hall and Dave Mustaine, lead singer of Megadeth. I'm actually a fan of Dave's, but what he said there made no sense. But that's typical Dave. He rarely makes a lot of sense. He's opinionated though. :) And a believer now.
I think the Lennon/Cosell interview is classic - awesome.
Made more poignant by Howard Cosell's respectful Monday Night Football announcement of Lennon's assassination six years later.
I didn't make it through the Mustaine interview :-)
Did anyone catch the reference to the future star of "Hunter"?
I had his football card, but gave it away before I knew better. Drat!
