"Why do people choose the substitute over God himself? Probably the most important reason is that it obviates accountability to God. We can meet idols on our own terms because they are our own creations. They are safe, predictable, and controllable; they are, in Jeremiah's colorful language, the 'scarecrows in a cornfield' (10:5). They are portable and completely under the user's control. They offer nothing like the threat of a God who thunders from Sinai and whose providence in this world so often appears to us to be incomprehensible and dangerous . . . [People] need face only themselves. That is the appeal of idolatry."

Vermont May Have Gay Marriage, But they Also Have This, Which is Why They're Still Awesome

Breaking new Champ video. From Cryptomundo:

There is breaking news from Vermont of new footage of an alleged lake monster (”Champ”?) from Lake Champlain.

This appears to be a developing story in the state . . .

More on Champ.

looks like some kind of indigenous young moose or caribou wading across the lake

I'm on dial up right now so I can't watch this vid. Oh well.

The other day I saw a U-Haul truck with "Vermont, Home of Champ!" painted on the side.

Around here I keep fantasizing that we'll one day have a Lake Waco monster or perhaps I'll see a Bigfoot walking into the dense woods behind my house. :-)

AWESOME!
I lived on the NY side of Lake Champlain. The Air Force Base was right on the lake...
So, I've heard the legend, although I personally think that "Champy" sounds better than just plain "Champ".

I grew up on the shores of Lake Champlain (summer resident)so it was really nice to see this. I don't know what that is but whatever. The whole champ thing is fun. Now I live not too far from this creature.
