"Why do people choose the substitute over God himself? Probably the most important reason is that it obviates accountability to God. We can meet idols on our own terms because they are our own creations. They are safe, predictable, and controllable; they are, in Jeremiah's colorful language, the 'scarecrows in a cornfield' (10:5). They are portable and completely under the user's control. They offer nothing like the threat of a God who thunders from Sinai and whose providence in this world so often appears to us to be incomprehensible and dangerous . . . [People] need face only themselves. That is the appeal of idolatry."

We'll get answers when they reimagine this series 20 years from now. Tricia Helfer will make it into the cast somehow.

My first reaction was to laugh! My second was to pull my hair out! But isn't life like this sometimes? I'm so glad we have God's peace that passes all understanding!

Biggest question of all........why did that guy hang so long with such a convoluted show that wasted A LOT of time with things unrelated to the central story.

You said it! He should have been spending his time on a show with air-tight, unassailable plotlines, like 24.

I'm just a simpleton Bill, I don't need airtight plotlines, just payoffs - I don't see the Lost payoff........no one has been able to explain it to me. Not that I'm overly open-minded on the subject :)

The enjoyment of Lost is in the investment we made in the characters. It was an extremely well-acted series, and the characters became people we felt like we knew.

At least that's the way it was for me. Early on I quit looking at Lost as a puzzle to be solved, and that made it more enjoyable for me.

24 was, at times similar - at least in the cases of Jack and Chloe.

p.s. You're not a simpleton.

Yeah, as you know Bill, if I hear a TV series is "really good" I'll invest the time. I heard that about Lost from tons of people, but it literally is the one highly recommended show that I just couldn't find a way to like.

I have a list building of shows to put into the Netflix queue like Madmen, Six Feet Under, etc that I've never seen, but want to.

I connected with Locke right away on Lost, but he was the only character I really liked, and it just wasn't enough for me........oh, and I liked Echo, but he died.

I realize that I'm late to the party on this post and the LOST discussion but the part at the beginning of this video about the psychic and Clair is my biggest unanswered question. I remember being really creeped out by that episode, they never came back to it though...bummer.
