"Why do people choose the substitute over God himself? Probably the most important reason is that it obviates accountability to God. We can meet idols on our own terms because they are our own creations. They are safe, predictable, and controllable; they are, in Jeremiah's colorful language, the 'scarecrows in a cornfield' (10:5). They are portable and completely under the user's control. They offer nothing like the threat of a God who thunders from Sinai and whose providence in this world so often appears to us to be incomprehensible and dangerous . . . [People] need face only themselves. That is the appeal of idolatry."

My Rockets have just won game 6 in the best of seven Western Conference semis. Without Tracy. Without Yao. Without Deke. Up against the (apparently no heart, no effort, no passion) Lakers, who are the "best" team in the West.
No one picks the Rockets to win game seven in LA. But no one thought they would even sniff a game six, especially after Yao went down.
The Rockets were absolutely blown off the court in game five in LA, so this is an amazing comeback. The heart of a champion is still beating.
I'm proud of my team, win or lose in the next game. Go Rockets! Beat the Lakers!

Hooray, the Lakers lost!
Who was that who beat them again? Oh yeah, the Rockets :-) Go Rockets!
