My lovely wife and I are going through the HBO miniseries, John Adams, right now. Have you seen anything good lately? Anything Netflix worthy?

Yes- have you ever watched "Frontier House"? This will be our families third time and I can't wait for it to arrive from Netflix today! Documenting the lives of four families -some wealthy some of just average means- all of who are taken out of life in suburbia. Voluntarily placed out in the wilderness and instructed on the basics of how to properly make it for one year (?) just as the pioneers of the 1800's would have, we the audience get a first hand take on the hard work, emotion, highs, lows and general dynamic of what goes on inside of of each of their cabins and lives.
It's a little educational and A LOT entertaining.
John Adams was awesome.
I recently went through Curb Your Enthusiasm on DVD. Always good for a laugh.
Melanie,
We saw Frontier House a few years ago when it aired on PBS. Is there more than one FH season?
Bird - "Llars and the Real Girl" - put it at the top of the Netflix queue...ignore the "premise" - it is very clean (though the premise would lead you to believe otherwise)......its about how a loving community rallies around a lonely guy who resorts to having a platonic relationship with a blow up doll because he can't function relationally in the real world.........highly recommended
"Under the Same Moon" is also a very good family film we rented recently........and Andrew is right - if you like Seinfeld, CYE is great - I own every season on DVD.
I love CYE. Except for the last season (with the Katrina family). It sucked.
But Bird: You WON'T like Curb Your Enthusiasm. Even if you liked Seinfeld. I promise you won't like CYE. Don't rent it.
I like last season - it had some of the great moments ever on the show - the exterminator and the chihuahua at the 8th grade production of Grease (that moment was the hardest I have ever laughed at a TV show in my life) - John McEnroe and the Freak Book - the staged purse snatching to get on the good side of his wife's therapist......some really funny moments - and I like the guy in the Katrina family - he had consistently hilarious interaction with Larry and an inspired moment when he helped Larry get back his Joe Pepitone jersey........its off-color and profane though, so yes - a lot of people wouldn't like it.
I'm trying desperately to catch up on Lost--I watched the first season, but then I went overseas during the second season and haven't caught up since. I'm on the third disc of the first season now, so DON'T TELL ME ANYTHING!
But Bird: You WON'T like Curb Your Enthusiasm. Even if you liked Seinfeld. I promise you won't like CYE. Don't rent it.
The dude who's the main character looks like a bore to me. I think I'll trust your Roddy judgement and pass.
I'm trying desperately to catch up on Lost--
I hope this doesn't give away too much, but you should know that Jack and Locke are sisters.
I love the John Adams miniseries. I'm putting it on my Christmas list.
