- Dallas Willard
A Nashville pastor posted a workplace security video on his blog (found on YouTube) of a worker freaking out in the office and vandalizing things and people. He mercilessly hits another man in the head and throws a computer across the aisle where it hits a woman in the head. Later, as the attacker is still wreaking havoc, another lady is tending to the woman's head wound.
The video is pretty disturbing and gave me the willies. And I'm a dude who loves action movies and boxing and the occasional MMA match.
But it was like watching a school shooting video or something. Not cool.
The reason the pastor gave for posting this was as an "illustration" against what the church's sermon series on work/career was trying to prevent.
I commented and respectfully suggested he rethink whether it was wise to post.
Another lady said she was disturbed by it.
Others were pretty blase.
One person said it was "fascinating."
One guy said it was in the running for his "best video of the week."
What planet am I on?

I don't know what :-p means.
What kind of smiley is that? A dude smiling with a lop-sided mustache?
Or a guy with a cigar?
Anyway, do you really think I should take it down?
Or do you just generally disapprove of 11 year olds singing about hippos?
Or are you all Scrooge-ish about people who start doing Christmas before Thanksgiving?

a) You're paranoid
b) I should have known better than not to be absolutely clear that I was joking.
c) I watched the video with my girls, who both love that song.
d) We started Christmas decorating yesterday.
e) You're paranoid.
Not only don't take it down; post it every day from now until Christmas. :-7
i'm pretty sure i've read that the office violence video was staged.. i forget by which company or why though.

We live on the same planet wherein many on the internet watched live as a young man OD'ed himself. That's the planet we live on.
Hello. My name is Phil, and I am Paranoid.
Everyone at the P.A. meeting: "Hi Phil"
Now back to the subject,
I think I can understand how in a world where pastors are striving to be relevant, hip and cool, and drink starbucks while preaching, and curse a little "Tony Campolo style" while preaching, and where pastors write books like "The Gospel according to Tony Soprano", and use video clips from all kinds of things, how a pastor with a blog would think such a video is "relevant" and carries emotional punch.
Ugh.
He should take it down.
I recently started following that pastor's blog, and saw the video in reference to his sermon series, not realizing he had used it as a sermon illustration. Did he? That would be somewhat uncomfortable in church. I can only imagine a chilling silence as people watch in horror; not the kind of thing you expect to get at your Sunday morning service. But we've all done things on Sunday mornings which, in hindsight, were a lapse in good judgment.

Uh....
Should I take the video down that's posted below that shows a picture of a hippopottomus bottom?
:)
