Mark, we use the "First Catechism" from Great Commission Publications. It's the fifth item listed on this page.
The language is modern and geared for youngsters, but I still change some wording here and there.
And once we get further in, I will actually excise some Q/A's that reflect traditional distinctives we don't ascribe to (like paedobaptism).
But it's really quite good.
what catechism do you use? I have wondered about doing something similar myself with my children, but the catechisms I have seen all use quite antiquated language
