"Why do people choose the substitute over God himself? Probably the most important reason is that it obviates accountability to God. We can meet idols on our own terms because they are our own creations. They are safe, predictable, and controllable; they are, in Jeremiah's colorful language, the 'scarecrows in a cornfield' (10:5). They are portable and completely under the user's control. They offer nothing like the threat of a God who thunders from Sinai and whose providence in this world so often appears to us to be incomprehensible and dangerous . . . [People] need face only themselves. That is the appeal of idolatry."

How dare you associate us with *splutter* them! Spammers?!? Fie!

We are so NOT on notice, short-timer. We've got TWO Nader voters in the ale-house. Colbert's got our back, mmmkay?

Forget the Nader thing. They're listed right next to Greg Boyd. Hmm...

Nice to see Titans RB Chris Brown so high on the list. He IS on notice, isn't he?

JMF(fkaT), good one! BHT cozy with "heretics," guilt by association,...lol!!11! Srsly, though, thx for the pass on Nader. We get beer poured on us ALL the time for that.

BTW, since when did Jared start gangstablogging and doing these drive-bys?

Is this like a Fox News version of ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption"?......I'm a little confused.

nhe, it is a still image from a Comedy Central show called "The Colbert Report," which is like a parody of the conservative curmudgeon "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox. I've never seen the show myself (I don't have cable), but my understanding is that "You're On Notice!" is a regular segment on The Colbert Report.

I saw this thing on TV Squad blog and couldn't resist filling out my own You're On Notice board. ;-)

Jared - that was me who cut you off in traffic - sorry! I was in a rush because I was late picking up Chris Brown - he and I went to a taping of America's Got Talent and stopped for some tots at Sonic - we tipped the nike-clad carhop handsomely.... :)
